Microstructure‐Resolved Modeling to Predicting and Regulating Lithium Plating‐Stripping Dynamics on Graphite Electrodes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The lithium plating reaction in graphite electrodes acts as a root cause for the accelerated degradation and the internal short circuits in lithium‐ion batteries. Here, an electrochemical model based on multi‐scale microstructural images was established to identify lithium plating‐stripping processes, thereby supporting the predictive outcomes

A Hydrogen‐Releasing Nanozyme Engineers a Mitochondrial ROS Amplifier for Self‐Sustaining Catalytic Immunotherapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We developed a RhPd‐H nanozyme that integrates enhanced POD‐mimetic catalytic activity with thermally triggered H2 release. H2 shields and reprograms mitochondria to continuously leak endogenous ·O2−. This dual‐path ROS spatially and temporally disrupts redox homeostasis, inducing persistent oxidative stress for tumor suppression and antitumor immunity,

Deciphering Short‐Range Order in 2D Transition Metal Dichalcogenides: From Origin to Multi‐Scale Property Modulation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Short‐range order in 2D transition metal dichalcogenides is revealed as a new design paradigm. Driven by chemical affinity and atomic size, it governs properties across scales. Weak ordering tunes site‐resolved magnetism and d‐band centers, while strong ordering eliminates gap states to open band gaps.

Colour responses of Eucalyptus grandis wood to the brazilian process of thermal modification

open access: yesMaderas: Ciencia y Tecnología, 2018
A study of colour assessment, using the CIEL*a*b* system, was conducted with samples of Eucalyptus grandis wood thermally treated by the Brazilian industrial process of thermal modification, VAP HolzSysteme®, at three different temperatures, i.e.

Thermally modified wood: from preservative to potential substitute

open access: yes, 2009
For decades, wood has been a victim of the wrath caused by insects and fungi degrading wood, using its natural properties for food and habitat. There are preventative measures humans can take to prolong the life of wood products. Pressure treating wood with chemicals such as CCA and ACQ provide adequate protection against organisms that feast on wood ...

Engineering Microbial Particles for Next‐Generation Biomedical Platforms

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Microbe‐derived particles (MDPs), which include extracellular vesicles, outer membrane vesicles, inclusion bodies, polysaccharide particles, and virus‐like particles, represent a rapidly expanding category of bioinspired nanomaterials. With their natural origin, intrinsic biocompatibility, and highly programmable functionality, MDPs serve as a ...

Functional Disorder at the Neural Interface: How Disordered Nanostructures Promote Proper Growth and Differentiation in In Vitro Neural Cultures

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work provides a practical guide for neuroengineers to design advanced neural interfaces, embracing and tailoring the concept of functional disorder. By bridging 2D and 3D in vitro models, this work highlights how non‐periodic, spatially heterogeneous, multiscale nanotopography can enable more physiologically relevant platforms for studying neural ...

Unlocking Plant‐Derived Potential: Regulating Microcrystalline Structure Design of High‐performance Hard Carbon Anodes via Cellulose Molecules

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The microcrystalline structure of hard carbon derived from green sandalwood is modulated by controlling the steric hindrance effect of the precursor, thereby significantly enhancing ion diffusion kinetics. When utilized in sodium‐ion batteries, it demonstrates excellent cycle life, exceeding 7000 cycles, as well as superior low‐temperature performance,

Effect of discontinuities as a means to alleviate thermal expansion mismatch damage in laminar composites [PDF]

open access: yes
An investigation of Nichrome/tungsten laminar composites showed that intentionally introduced discontinuities, such as perforations through or grooves on the surface of the matrix laminae, improved thermal expansion mismatch damage resistance.
