Comparison of pyrometry and thermography for thermal analysis of thermite reactions

Applied Optics, 2021
This study examines the thermal behavior of a laser ignited thermite composed of aluminum and bismuth trioxide. Temperature data were collected during the reaction using a four-color pyrometer and a high-speed color camera modified for thermography.

Microscale Thermite Reactions

Journal of Chemical Education, 1998
The reaction of aluminum with the oxides of a variety of elements (aluminothermy, or the Goldschmidt process) illustrates exothermic reactions that require a high activation energy. It is also an appropriate experiment with regard to the discussion of Ellingham diagrams. Because it is spectacular, this reaction is a favorite for demonstrations.

Thermal Profiles Of Thermite Reactions

SPIE Proceedings, 1985
Thermite is a mixture of a metal and oxide which is consolidated to form a composite chemical heat source. Thermal profiles of reacting thermite composites were generated and analyzed to determine the burn rate and the heat propagation during and after the reaction. These thermal profiles are used to establish rates of heat transfer.
