Thermit-type SiO2-Al reaction in arc discharge
International Journal of Self-Propagating High-Temperature Synthesis, 2011Thermit-type SiO2-Al reaction was carried out in conditions of arc discharge in an inert atmosphere at reduced pressure. Phase composition of products was characterized by XRD, SEM, and EDS and process parameters have been optimized.

Transient ion ejection during nanocomposite thermite reactions
Journal of Applied Physics, 2009We observe an intense ion pulse from nanocomposite thermite reactions, which we temporally probe using a recently developed temperature jump/time of flight mass spectrometer. These ion pulses are observed to be much shorter in duration than the overall thermite reaction time.

Understanding the Reaction Mechanism of Nanocomposite Thermites
2015Nanocomposite energetics are a relatively new class of materials that combine nanoscale fuels and oxidizers to allow for the rapid release of large amounts of energy. In thermite systems (metal fuel with metal oxide oxidizer), the use of nanomaterials has been illustrated to increase reactivity by multiple orders of magnitude as a result of the higher ...

Activation energy of tantalum–tungsten oxide thermite reactions
Combustion and Flame, 2011Abstract The activation energy of a sol–gel (SG) derived tantalum–tungsten oxide thermite composite was determined using the Kissinger isoconversion method. The SG derived powder was consolidated using the high-pressure spark plasma sintering (HPSPS) technique at 300 and 400 °C.

Kinetic Analysis of Thermite Reactions in Al-MoO3 Nanocomposites
42nd AIAA/ASME/SAE/ASEE Joint Propulsion Conference & Exhibit, 2006Reactions in energetic Al-MoO 3 nanocomposites prepared by arrested reactive milling were investigated by scanning calorimetry and heated filament ignition experiments. The calorimetry data were processed to obtain kinetic parameters describing the reaction between Al and MoO 3 .

Iron Oxide/Aluminum Fast Thermite Reaction
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2004The self‐sustained thermite reaction between iron oxide (Fe2O3) and aluminum (Al) is commonly slow. This paper presents an experimental study to evaluate the reaction regression rates of these thermite mixtures with or without continuous electrical discharge.

Gas vs. Condensed Phase Reactions in Nano-Thermites
52nd Aerospace Sciences Meeting, 2014Explosive formulations incorporating aluminum nano particles as a fuel has been extensively studied due to their low diffusion length scales and their high specific energy release compared to traditional organic formulations. In this work we evaluate the combustion product particle size distribution of nanothermites, and deduce some controlling ...

Thermite Reaction‐Induced Thermal Runaway of Lithium‐Ion Batteries
Advanced MaterialsAbstract Safety is a primary concern for the widespread use of lithium‐ion batteries (LIBs) in electric vehicles as well as energy storage. Despite the numerous mechanisms proposed to explain thermal runaway (TR) and the various methods implemented to mitigate it, battery explosions still occur.
