Causality and intrinsic thermoacoustic instability modes

open access: yes, 2014
Direct numerical simulation of a confined laminar premixed flame has been performed in an anechoic combustor, showing self-sustained intrinsic thermoacoustic oscillations. Theoretical predictions based on acoustic jump relations and the n − τ model for the flame are presented and causality concerns are discussed.

On singularities and instability of reconstruction in thermoacoustic tomography

open access: yes, 2009
We consider the problem of thermoacoustic tomography (TAT), in which one needs to reconstruct the initial value of a solution of the wave equation from its value on an observation surface. We show that if some geometric rays for the equation do not intersect the observation surface, the reconstruction in TAT is not Hölder stable.

Effects of Hydrogen Enrichment on Thermoacoustic and Helical Instabilities in Swirl Stabilised Partially Premixed Flames

open access: yes
The effects of hydrogen enrichment on flame and flow dynamics of a swirl-stabilised partially premixed methane-air flame are studied using large eddy simulation.

Attenuation of thermoacoustic instabilities in a swirl-stabilized NH3–CH4–air combustor with secondary air injection

open access: yes
Ammonia–methane (NH3–CH4) mixtures have potentials to serve as low-carbon fuels for gas turbines. Recent studies demonstrated that secondary air injection was an effective strategy to reduce NOx emissions from the combustion of NH3–CH4–air mixtures ...

Experimental Study of a Transcritical Thermoacoustic Device

open access: yes, 2018
A prototype transcritical thermoacoustic engine has been constructed and tested, yielding thermoacoustic results. Three different thermoacoustic “stack” designs have been evaluated in the present study.

Stability analysis and control of nonlinear thermoacoustic systems with multiple deterministic and stochastic sources by a Green’s function approach

open access: yes
Thermoacoustic instabilities result from the interaction between heat and sound in a confined space, and they pose challenges due to self-sustained high amplitude oscillations.

Development and Characterization of Porous Ceramic Absorbers for Damping of Thermoacoustic Instabilities

open access: yes, 2011
This work presents a new approach for the damping of thermoacoustic instabilities. The use of porous ceramics with high sound absorbent capabilities as lining in combustion chambers was studied in order to suppress self induced combustion instabilities ...
