Thermochromic printing inks for smart packaging applications

2014
Thermochromic printing inks (TC inks) are the type of chromogenic or colour chang-ing inks that change colour under certain circumstances. The colour change in TC inks is caused by the exposure to temperature gradient. TC printing inks are one of the candidates for active and smart packaging of the future.

Spectroscopic evaluation of the colour play effect of thermochromic liquid crystal printing inks

Coloration Technology, 2016
Colour changes of a thermochromic liquid crystal (TLC) ink printed on a black substrate are clearly observed by the naked eye, and therefore it is reasonable to expect that every approach recommended for colour measurements of samples with solid colour would be appropriate.

Optical properties of thermochromic liquid crystal printing inks

2013
Thermochromic liquid crystal inks (TLCs) reflect incident light in a rather narrow spectral region. This phenomenon is caused by selective reflection of light on chiral (twisted) molecular structure which changes its distribution with temperature. The reflected light produces iridescent colour which is continuously shifted from red to blue part of the ...

DYNAMIC COLOUR CHANGES OF THERMOCHROMIC LEUCO DYE AND LIQUID CRYSTAL BASED PRINTING INKS

2013
Inks that change colour under certain circumstances are becoming increasingly used in applications such as security printing, smart packaging and novelty printing. Thermochromic printing inks change their colour according to a change in temperature.

Determination of bisphenol A in thermochromic printing inks by HPLC

2015
Bisphenol A (BPA ; Figure 1) is an industrial chemical with major applications in the production of polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resins. Polycarbonate is used in food storage containers, while epoxy resins are used in the internal coating for food and beverage cans.

Selective oxygen plasma etching of thermochromic printing inks

2010
Selective etching with oxygen plasma is one of very few methods suitable for observation of pigments in dry coatings. The feasibility of this method for coating with microencapsulated organic chromogenic composite is studied here. The exposure time required to etch enough binder away is too long for particles’ polymer shells.

Functional properties of the leucodye-based thermochromic printing inks

2011
Leuco dye-based thermochromic printing inks are one of the candidates for active packaging of the future. Such an advanced application requires much more knowledge about these novel inks as it is currently provided by the manufacturers. Thermochromic inks reversibly change from colored to discolored state in a certain temperature region.

Liquid crystal-based thermochromic printing inks

2018

Preparation of Reversible Thermochromic Ink for Flexography Printing on Paper and Study its Colorimetric Properties

2015
Thermochromic printing inks could be security inks which respond to the color change when are being exposed to different temperatures. These inks with unusual chemical and physical specific characteristics are mostly produced for flexographic, screen and rotogravure printing systems under the supervision of skilled technical experts and with precise ...

ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY COATINGS AND THEIR EFFECT ON THERMOCHROMIC PRINTING INK FUNCTIONALITY

Polymer waste poses a significant environmental challenge due to its non-biodegradable nature, leading to environmental pollution at the end of its lifecycle, meaning there is a pressing need to replace synthetic polymers with naturally derived ones.
