Interactions between Molten High‐Silicon Electrical Steels and Carbon‐Bonded MgO Refractories Based on Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines how several molten high‐silicon electrical steels interact with both conventional and recycled MgO–C refractories. For this, various immersion experiments are conducted. In addition to infiltration, a number of mechanisms are identified and explained that control the corrosion of the refractory material.

Kinetics and thermodynamics of first-order Markov chain copolymerization

open access: yes, 2014
We report a theoretical study of stochastic processes modeling the growth of first-order Markov copolymers, as well as the reversed reaction of depolymerization. These processes are ruled by kinetic equations describing both the attachment and detachment

Measurement and Thermodynamic Modeling for CO2 Solubility in the N-(2-Hydroxyethyl) Piperazine + Water System

open access: yesFrontiers in Energy Research, 2021
Amine scrubbing is the most important technique for capturing CO2. The cyclic diamine N-(2-Hydroxyethyl)-piperazine (HEPZ), a derivative of piperazine, with good mutual solubility in aqueous solution, a low melting point, and a high boiling point, has ...

Energetics of active fluctuations in living cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The nonequilibrium activity taking place in a living cell can be monitored with a tracer embedded in the medium. While microrheology experiments based on optical manipulation of such probes have become increasingly standard, we put forward a number of ...

Influence of Sample Preparation and Processing Procedures on the Thermal Diffusivity of MgO‐C Refractories

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The thermal diffusivity of MgO‐C refractories is highly sensitive to sample preparation and processing procedures. In this article, the effects of coking sequence, machining conditions, structural inhomogeneity, and graphite coating application on measurements using laser flash apparatus are systematically investigated.
