Thermodynamics of perfect fluids from scalar field theory [PDF]
The low-energy dynamics of relativistic continuous media is given by a shift-symmetric effective theory of four scalar fields. These scalars describe the embedding in spacetime of the medium and play the role of Stückelberg fields for spontaneously broken spatial and time translations.

Thermodynamical instabilities of perfect fluid spheres in General Relativity [PDF]
For a static, perfect fluid sphere with a general equation of state, we obtain the relativistic equation of hydrostatic equilibrium, namely the Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkov equation, as the thermodynamical equilibrium in the microcanonical, as well as the canonical, ensemble.

Structure of curved crystals in the thermodynamic limit and the perfect screening condition
The dislocation and disclination density defining the structure of a crystal constrained on a general curved background is computed analytically in the thermodynamic limit, when the number of particles is arbitrarily large. It is shown that the minimum of the elastic energy, where strains are optimally close to zero, can be formulated in terms of a ...

Probing Dark Energy through Perfect Fluid Thermodynamics
We demonstrate that the thermodynamics of a perfect fluid describing baryonic matter can, in certain limits, lead to an equation of state similar to that of dark energy. We keep the cosmic fluid equation of state quite general by just demanding that the speed of sound is positive and less than the speed of light.

Thermodynamic properties of “near-perfect” gas
When applied thermodynamics requires simple representations of thermodynamic quantities, one often finds quantities such as pressure and the thermal energy density expressed as a monomial linear product of density and temperature power laws. This is a simple generalization of the product of density and temperature used for the perfect gas that admits a

The status and development trend of the water chiller energy efficiency standard in China
The study we present here analyzes the status of the water chiller energy efficiency standard in China. The national standard, GB19577-2004, which sets the grade and scale of water chiller energy efficiency, has been implemented for five years and has ...

Assessment of thermodynamic perfection of working substancesin cascade refrigerators
