Formation of thermodynamically unstable solid solutions in the Cu-Co system by mechanical alloying
Physical Review B, 1993Cu-Co has been chosen as a model system to study phase formation during mechanical alloying in systems with components exhibiting a positive heat of mixing. Phase formation is monitored by scanning electron microscopy, x-ray diffraction, and calorimetric measurements.

Rate equations are studied as to type, yielding descriptions of viscoelastic, viscoplastic, and plastic behavior.

Thermodynamic model for solid-state amorphization of pure elements by mechanical-milling
Journal of Non-Crystalline Solids, 2006Abstract Mechanical-milling induced solid-state amorphization (SSA) has been observed in some covalent metalloids (Si, Ge, Se), but never in pure metals at room temperature. In this paper, a thermodynamic model was proposed for the SSA of the pure elements.
