Thermoelasticity of Elastin [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 1970
THERE is some controversy about the presence in elastin of an ordered structure1–3. Mammi et al.4 now report evidence for the occurrence of some degree of α-helix conformation in the native protein. The conformation was previously5 observed in soluble elastin; the temperature coefficient of the α-helix had different values in solvents such as water or ...

Actuating and Sensing Composites of Liquid Crystal Elastomers and Poly(ionic liquid)s

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Ionic conductive, mechanically tough, flexible, and stretchable filaments of a composite material comprising a liquid crystal elastomer and a poly(ionic liquid) are produced through 3D printing, which exhibit large actuation strain under stimulation and electrical resistance variation in response to deformation or environmental condition changes. Their

A General Study of Fundamental Solutions in Aniotropicthermoelastic Media with Mass Diffusion and Voids

open access: yesInternational Journal of Applied Mechanics and Engineering, 2020
The present paper deals with the study of a fundamental solution in transversely isotropic thermoelastic media with mass diffusion and voids. For this purpose, a two-dimensional general solution in transversely isotropic thermoelastic media with mass ...

Recovery of a space-dependent vector source in thermoelastic systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
In this contribution, an inverse problem of determining a space-dependent vector source in a thermoelastic system of type-I, type-II and type-III is studied using information from a supplementary measurement at a fixed time.

Towards assessment of fatigue damage in composite laminates using thermoelastic stress analysis

open access: yesComposites Part C: Open Access, 2023
A new approach that utilizes Thermoelastic Stress Analysis (TSA) is proposed to investigate fatigue-induced material degradation in laminated fiber-reinforced polymer composites (FRP). The proposed model accounts for non-adiabatic conditions, the effects

Coating thermal noise for arbitrary shaped beams [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Advanced LIGO's sensitivity will be limited by coating noise. Though this noise depends on beam shape, and though nongaussian beams are being seriously considered for advanced LIGO, no published analysis exists to compare the quantitative thermal noise ...

Direct Mode‐Resolved Measurement of Interfacial Phonon Transport by Acoustic Phonon Reflectometry

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
We introduce a novel analysis, acoustic phonon reflectometry, that measures the mode‐resolved phonon reflection coefficient at semiconductor interfaces. In aluminum nitride, we observe excellent agreement with the acoustic mismatch model across three distinct interfaces.

Thermoelastic responses of biological tissue under thermal shock based on three phase lag model

open access: yesCase Studies in Thermal Engineering, 2021
The paper dealt with the thermoelastic responses of biological tissues subjected to an abrupt input of temperature load in the context of generalized thermoelasticity with three phase lag times.

Dynamic elastic properties and magnetic susceptibility across the austenite-martensite transformation in site-disordered ferromagnetic Ni-Fe-Al alloy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Besides permitting an accurate determination of the ferromagnetic-to-paramagnetic phase transition temperature and the characteristic temperatures for the beginning and end of the growth of martensite (austenite) phase at the expense of austenite ...
