Phase Engineering Enabled Excellent Power Factor and Reduced Thermal Conductivity in ZrCoSb‐Based Half‐Heusler Compounds

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
In situ precipitation of Zr6Co16Si7 in ZrCoSb‐based half‐Heusler enables Fermi level optimization and enhanced phonon scattering. Electrical conductivity is significantly improved while the power factor continuously increases, reaching ~3.36 mW m−1 K−2.

Thermoelectric power generation: Peltier element versus thermoelectric generator

IECON 2016 - 42nd Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, 2016
This paper presents a detailed comparison between Peltier elements (also called thermoelectric coolers (TEC)) and thermoelectric generators (TEG) for the usage as thermoelectric power generators. Whereas the former is normally known for cooling applications or heat pump uses, it can also be used as generator.

Thermoelectricity and thermoelectric power generation

Solid-State Electronics, 1968
Abstract Thermoelectric phenomena result from the diffusion of electrons and phonons along a temperature gradient in electrically conducting solids. These diffusion currents are determined by the concentration of these particles, and their interaction with each other as well as with impurities and defects.

Thermoelectric Cooling and Power Generation

Science, 1999
In a typical thermoelectric device, a junction is formed from two different conducting materials, one containing positive charge carriers (holes) and the other negative charge carriers (electrons). When an electric current is passed in the appropriate direction through the junction, both types of charge carriers move away from the junction and convey ...

Special Applications of Thermoelectric Generators

IEEE Transactions on Industry and General Applications, 1966
A summary of the development of gas-fired thermo-electric power plants is given for the period from 1962 to 1966. Present-day thermoelectric generator equipment is portrayed with a description of good site preparation and installation steps showing the simplicity of operation.
