Experimental Measurements of Fanning Friction Factors in Various Types of Additively Manufactured Compact Heat Exchangers

open access: yesHeat Transfer, Volume 54, Issue 4, Page 2728-2740, June 2025.
ABSTRACT In recent years, the advancement of the additive manufacturing (AM) process has become popular in making very complex shapes, including compact plate‐fin heat exchangers. This provides considerable flexibility in creating a complex geometry, is cost‐effective, and eliminates a variety of manufacturing processes in a compact heat exchanger (CHE)

Sustainable Thermal Solutions: Enhancing Heat Transfer with Turbulators and Nanofluids

open access: yesAdvanced Energy and Sustainability Research, Volume 6, Issue 5, May 2025.
Nanofluids, which are nanoparticle suspensions in base fluid, facilitate heat transmission due to their improved thermal conductivity. Turbulators, which are inserts into fluid flow channels, disturb the flow, increasing turbulence and hence the heat transfer rate.

Transient thermohydraulics research activities related to LMFBRs at PNC. [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Nuclear Science and Technology, 1989
This paper reviews research activities at the Power Reactor and Nuclear Fuel Development Corp. Japan, with emphasis on experimental studies and analytical code development related to transient thermohydraulics in LMFBRs. Much effort in this area has been mainly devoted to studies on low-heat-flux and low-flow phenomena including natural circulation ...

Thermohydraulic modeling and simulation of breeder reactors [PDF]

open access: yes, 1982
This paper deals with the modeling and simulation of system-wide transients in LMFBRs. Unprotected events (i.e., the presumption of failure of the plant protection system) leading to core-melt are not considered in this paper. The existing computational capabilities in the area of protected transients in the US are noted. Various physical and numerical

Thermohydraulic Lumped Parameter Models for Direct Battery Cooling

open access: yes2025 31st International Workshop on Thermal Investigations of ICs and Systems (THERMINIC)
This study explores the use of passive flow guider structures to improve thermal management in prismatic lithium-ion battery cells under non-uniform heat flux conditions. Using lumped parameter thermal simulations, the temperature distributions are evaluated for both insulating and conductive flow guider materials.
