Optimal thermohydraulic performance of artificially roughened solar air heaters

Solar Energy, 1991
Abstract The heat transfer coefficient of solar air heaters can be increased by provinding artificial roughness on the bottom of the absorber plate, leading to higher collection efficiency. Inclusion of artificial roughness, however, results in a higher friction factor and consequently a higher pumping power is required.

Thermohydraulic Performance of Packed Bed Solar Air Heater

2020
An experimental investigation is carried out as per ASHRAE standards on a high porosity packed bed solar air heater. Packed bed is generally used to enhance the heat transfer area and also for storage of thermal energy. The work covers a particular range of design and operating parameters. Design parameters include the colour of packing material (black

Internal Groove Influenced Thermohydraulic Performance on an Air-Channel

Volume 1: Flow Manipulation and Active Control; Bio-Inspired Fluid Mechanics; Boundary Layer and High-Speed Flows; Fluids Engineering Education; Transport Phenomena in Energy Conversion and Mixing; Turbulent Flows; Vortex Dynamics; DNS/LES and Hybrid RANS/LES Methods; Fluid Structure Interaction; Fluid Dynamics of Wind Energy; Bubble, Droplet, and Aerosol Dynamics, 2018
Internal fins, protrusions, and porous foams enhance the local convective heat transfer at the channel walls in the heat exchangers, electronic chips for cooling, and solar panels for cooling and heating by promoting the local turbulence in flow. However, the fluid pumping power in the channel suffers due to the blockage and high pressure drop caused ...

Optimising the thermohydraulic performance of rough surfaces

International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, 1975
Abstract The parameters which control the momentum- and heat-transfer performance of a rough surface in a uniform channel flow are presented in a novel way. A new efficiency parameter is denned for optimising this performance. Using a recently developed analysis a wide range of rough surfaces are investigated and design charts presented.

Thermohydraulic Performance Analysis of Offset Strip Fin Microchannel Heat Exchangers

ASME 4th International Conference on Nanochannels, Microchannels, and Minichannels, Parts A and B, 2006
Recent experimental work on enhanced Silicon microchannels (Colgan et al., 2005, Steinke, 2005) indicates significant improvement in the heat transfer coefficient during single-phase liquid flow. The enhanced microchannel consists of multi-pass arrangements with offset strip fins of short lengths.

Thermohydraulic performance of solar air heaters with roughened absorber plates

Solar Energy, 1997
Artificial roughness has been found to enhance the heat transfer from the absorber plate to the air in a solar air heater duct. However, this improvement is invariably accompanied by increased pumping power. In this work, the effect of roughness and operating parameters on the thermal as well as the hydraulic performance of roughened solar air heaters ...

Effect of Air Gap on thermohydraulic performance of finned tube bundles

Thermal Science and Engineering Progress, 2020
Abstract The air gap between the consecutive tube bundle row fins is one of the most important parameters that have not been evaluated in terms of their impact on the performance of air-cooled condensers. In this paper, the effect of this air gap on the thermo-hydraulic performance of the tube bundle air-side flow is investigated.

Thermohydraulic Performance and Flow Structures of Diamond Pyramid Arrays

Volume 13: Heat Transfer: General Interest / Additive Manufacturing Impacts on Heat Transfer; Wind Energy
Abstract Surface features are a common heat transfer enhancement method used in a myriad of applications including gas turbines and heat exchangers. One such style of surface features is diamond pyramids, which offer significant heat transfer augmentation for moderate increases in overall pressure losses.

Investigation of the thermohydraulic performance of impinging jet solar air heater

Energy, 2014
Jet impingement is an established method of convective heat transfer from the heated surface to the carrier fluid. High heat transfer rates are achieved using impinging jets in solar air heater duct but at the cost of increased friction power penalty.
