The role of grain size and shape in the strengthening of dispersion hardened nickel alloys [PDF]

open access: yes
Thermomechanical processing was used to develop various microsstructures in Ni, Ni-2ThO2, Ni-20Cr, Ni-20CR-2ThO2, Ni-20Cr-10W-and Ni-20Cr-10W-2ThO2. The yield strength at 25 C increased with substructure refinement according to the Hall-Petch relation ...

A Wearable Soft Actuator for Directional Tactile Stimulation: Design and Testing

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
A wearable actuator able to produce directional tactile stimulation is obtained by embedding a planar shape memory spring in silicone matrix. The matrix is designed taking into account skin characteristics and leveraging its multifunctionality: it acts as a bias load, improves the thermal behavior of the spring and wearability.

4D Printing of Polyethylene Glycol‐Grafted Carbon Nanotube‐Reinforced Polyvinyl Chloride–Polycaprolactone Composites for Enhanced Shape Recovery and Thermomechanical Performance

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This study introduces polyethylene glycol‐functionalized carbon nanotubes (CNTs) to enhance dispersion, interfacial bonding, and 4D printability in polyvinyl chloride‐PCL nanocomposites. The optimized 4D composite (0.5 wt% CNT) achieves a 25% increase in tensile strength, 95.78% shape fixity, and 5‐s recovery time.

Coordinative Ring‐Opening Polymerization of Limonene Carbamate towards Phosgene‐ and Isocyanate‐Free Polyurethane

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, Accepted Article.
This study presents a phosgene‐ and isocyanate‐free route for the synthesis of polyurethanes using (R)‐limonene as a bio‐based starting material. The synthesis of the cyclic limonene‐based carbamate monomer LU is achieved in high yields using dimethyl carbonate as a sustainable, less hazardous phosgene surrogate and is verified by NMR, SC‐XRD, ESI‐MS ...

Developing high-strength, ductile Ni-free Fe–Cr–Mn–C–N stainless steels by interstitial-alloying and thermomechanical processing

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2019
Microstructures and mechanical properties of a new grade of Fe–18Cr–12Mn–CN (wt%) austenitic stainless steels interstitial-alloyed with 0.3–0.48 wt% C + N at 0.22–1.06 C/N ratios were investigated after thermomechanical processing.
