Solvent‐Free Synthesis of Closed‐Loop Recyclable Acetal Thermosets Derived from Biobased Resources

open access: yesChemSusChem, EarlyView.
A solvent‐free, scalable synthesis of biobased acetal thermosets is presented, utilizing a vanillin‐derived aldehyde and different diols with oxalic acid as a removable catalyst. The thermosets exhibit excellent mechanical properties, chemical stability, and closed‐loop recyclability.

A Greener and More Scalable Synthesis of Biogenic Polydisulfides from Lipoic Acid

open access: yesChemSusChem, EarlyView.
Lipoic acid is an economical and biogenic feedstock for synthesizing recyclable polydisulfides possessing unique properties. Herein, we report a greener and more scalable synthesis of lipoate ester monomers and their corresponding polymers that is backed by life cycle assessment (LCA).

Mathematical Modeling of Thermomechanical Treatment Process Applied to Aluminum Base Alloys for Aeronautics

open access: yesThe Annals of “Dunarea de Jos” University of Galati. Fascicle IX, Metallurgy and Materials Science, 2011
To optimize the thermo-mechanical processing of aluminum base alloys, mathematical modeling was used in a laborious research program by planned experiment of thermomechanical treatment process applied to an Al-Zn system alloy.

Fractionation of Edible Fats: Model Fat‐Oil Separation in Decanter Centrifuge

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Lipid Science and Technology, EarlyView.
A model system was investigated, and fat crystal agglomerates were effectively separated from oil using a lab‐scale decanter centrifuge. High hydrostatic pressure on the bowl wall results in a compacted cake. Low cake axial transport velocity allows sufficient time for the olein to be removed from the cake pores.
