Influence of oxidized starch on the properties of thermoplastic starch
Carbohydrate Polymers, 2013Thermoplastic starch was prepared by adding oxidized starches and glycerol together into starch. The addition of oxidized starch improved the rheological properties and also increased the toughness of thermoplastic starch. Compared with TPS30, the elongation at break increased from 126.8% to 152.5% when 5wt% OS 117% was added.

Potato Starch Based Resilient Thermoplastic Foams
2001Assuming a starch based material can be found able to replace extruded polystyrene foam, a renewable alternative would be available that strongly reduces the amount of foamed plastics in waste streams. In this study it is shown that by the foaming of potato starch based expandable beads such a material can be produced.

Film blowing of thermoplastic starch
Carbohydrate Polymers, 2008Thermoplastic starch materials are often based on a combination of starch, glycerol and water. In the present study, two potato starch grades were employed; a native (natural) grade and an oxidised and hydroxypropylated grade of the native material, in order to produce the thermoplastic material.

Thermoplastic Starch Processing and Characteristics—A Review
Critical Reviews in Food Science and Nutrition, 2014Canola Council of Canada, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada The rising costs of nonrenewable feedstocks and environmental concerns with their industrial usage have encouraged the study and development of renewable products, including thermoplastic starch (TPS).

Biodegradation of thermoplastic starch/eggshell powder composites
Carbohydrate Polymers, 2013Thermoplastic starch (TPS) was prepared using compression molding and chicken eggshell was used as a filler. The effect of the eggshell powder (EP) on the properties of TPS was compared with the effect of commercial calcium carbonate (CC). The organic compound on the surface of the eggshell powder acted as a coupling agent that resulted in a strong ...

Chemical Modification of Thermoplastic Starch
2015Thermoplastic starch (TPS) has been used since the 1990s as a thermoplastic material produced from native starch by its processing in the presence of a plasticizer, usually glycerol. The great advantage of TPS is the possibility of using conventional equipment from the plastics industry, either for its production or transformation into an end product ...

Biodegradable Coatings for Thermoplastic Starch
1997Over the last few years, there has been renewed interest in biodegradable plastics made from annually renewable, natural polymers such as starch (see Chapters 1, 2, 5 and 10). The fact that starch is receiving considerable attention is understandable, as it is totally biodegradable, is inexpensive compared to other biodegradable polymers, and is ...
