Divanillin-Based Aromatic Amines: Synthesis and Use as Curing Agents for Fully Vanillin-Based Epoxy Thermosets

open access: yesFrontiers in Chemistry, 2019
Bio-based aromatic diamines from vanillin substrate were successfully synthesized and characterized. These amines, i.e., methylated divanillylamine (MDVA) and 3,4-dimethoxydianiline (DMAN), were then tested as curing agents for the design of bio-based ...

Extension of the Application Range of Multipolar Bonded Ring Magnets by Thermosets in Comparison to Thermoplastics

open access: yesMagnetism, 2023
To expand the range of applications of multipolar bonded magnets based on a thermoplastic matrix, the chemical and thermal resistance has to be increased and the reduced orientation in the rapid solidified surface layer has to be overcome.

4D‐Printable Poly(Thio)urethane Photoresins With Reactive Oxygen Species Responsiveness and Anti‐Inflammatory Functionality

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work introduces UV‐curable poly(thio)urethane (PSU) thermosets as 4D printable scaffolds responsive to oxidative stress. PSU networks with 100 wt.% polypropylene glycol (PPG) effectively suppress inflammatory markers in microglial cells to basal values.

Quasi-static and low-velocity impact behavior of intraply hybrid flax/basalt composites [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
In an attempt to increase the low-velocity impact response of natural fiber composites, a new hybrid intraply woven fabric based on flax and basalt fibers has been used to manufacture laminates with both thermoplastic and thermoset matrices.

Thermally Drawn Multifunctional All‐Hydrogel Fibers for Anti‐Fibrotic and Multimodal Neural Interfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Hydrogels demonstrate material properties that mimic the mechanical and chemical environments of biological tissues. Yet, they face challenges during their integration into 3D interfaces. By identifying a class of thermoplastic hydrogels, a strategy is developed to pattern hydrogels in thermally drawn fibers.
