Characteristics of thermosiphon reboilers

International Journal of Thermal Sciences, 2001
The paper describes the operational characteristics of thermosiphon reboilers on the basis of an experimental and theoretical study. The operational responses to a variation of the driving temperature difference, the operating pressure and the liquid head in the inlet line are discussed in detail. Furthermore, the influence of several design parameters

Fouling monitoring in a thermosiphon reboiler

2001 European Control Conference (ECC), 2001
The aim of this paper is to describe a system for fouling monitoring in thermosiphon reboilers. This system is based on a static model of the fouling resistance of which the parameters are identified from industrial data. The determination of adequate data requires the detection of transients due to set point changes, physical disturbances or change in

Fouling Monitoring in Thermosiphon Reboiler

Heat Transfer Engineering, 2014
A method to monitor the fouling resistance of a heat exchanger, especially the thermosiphon reboiler, is presented. The historical hourly data of reboiler and distillation column are used to analyze fouling factor. The initial value of overall heat transfer coefficient and the current overall heat transfer coefficient are needed to calculate fouling ...

Circulation rates in thermosiphon reboiler

International Journal of Heat and Fluid Flow, 1992
Abstract An experimental investigation of heat transfer to boiling liquids with natural convective flow has been carried out in a single tube natural circulation reboiler. Three test liquids—water, acetone, and ethylene glycol—were used to cover a wide range of boiling points and thermophysical properties.

Optimization of passive thermosiphon beam system with genetic algorithm

IECON 2020 The 46th Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, 2020
This paper presents an optimization strategy for the passive thermosiphon beam system to maintain the indoor thermal comfort and reduce the energy consumption. The terminal unit model, indoor built model and energy models of the components in the passive thermosiphon beam (PTB) system are developed respectively.

The tiltpipe liquid thermosiphon

Heat Recovery Systems and CHP, 1992
Abstract A new heat transporter is described, the tiltpipe liquid thermosiphon (TLT). In service, a straight, sealed pipe, filled with liquid, is maintained in a tilted orientation. By means of the contained liquid, heat is received from a heat source at the lower end of the pipe, transported to the elevated end, and delivered to a heat sink.

Thermosiphon Reboilers with Enhanced Tubes

Chemie Ingenieur Technik, 2015
AbstractReliable heat exchangers capable of transferring heat at low driving temperature differences are key to energy efficient processes. In this paper, heat transfer and fluid dynamics of hydrophobic nanoparticle (HBNP) coated tubes are investigated in a steam‐heated single‐tube thermosiphon reboiler and compared to experimental results of standard ...

Thermosiphon-Based PCR Reactor:  Experiment and Modeling

Analytical Chemistry, 2004
A self-actuated, flow-cycling polymerase chain reaction (PCR) reactor that takes advantage of buoyancy forces to continuously circulate reagents in a closed loop through various thermal zones has been constructed, tested, and modeled. The heating required for the PCR is advantageously used to induce fluid motion without the need for a pump.
