Direct measurement and analysis of thermosiphon flow

Solar Energy, 1985
Abstract The thermosiphon flow rate has been measured directly by adapting a simple and well-known laboratory technique, a constant level device, to a solar collector operating in the thermosiphon mode. The measurements were performed as a function of thermosiphon head and inlet temperature.

Numerical Simulation of the Flow in a Toroidal Thermosiphon

ASME-JSME-KSME 2011 Joint Fluids Engineering Conference: Volume 1, Symposia – Parts A, B, C, and D, 2011
Buoyancy-driven flows are widespread in diverse engineering applications. Such flows have been studied in great detail theoretically, experimentally, and numerically. The prototype of passive, residual heat removal systems is the toroidal thermosiphon. The stability properties of such systems were first examined in detail by Creveling et al. in the mid-

Heat-exchange crisis in thermosiphon circuits

Journal of Engineering Physics, 1985
The article discusses the analogy and distinguishing features of heat-exchange crises in steam-generating channels of thermosiphon circuits. A chart of the crisis phenomena in channels with natural and forced circulation is presented.

LDV and PIV Velocity Results in a Thermosiphon

Volume 2: Symposia, Parts A, B, and C, 2003
Heat transfer and flow characteristics have been determined for a single-phase rectangular loop thermosiphon. The plane of the loop was vertical, and tests were performed with in-plane tilt angles ranging from 3.6° CW to 4.2° CCW. Velocity profiles were measured in one vertical leg of the loop using both a single-component Laser Doppler Velocimeter ...

Fouling Resistance Modelling, Identification and Monitoring in a Thermosiphon Reboiler

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 2001
The aim of this paper is to describe a system for fouling monitoring of thermosiphon reboilers. This system is based on a static model of the fouling resistance. The latter has been constructed in three steps. First, a mathematical model of the fouling resistance based on the overall heat transfer coefficient and on the inside film heat transfer ...

Measurement of low speed thermosiphonic flow

Renewable Energy, 1991
Abstract A flow visualization technique using dye injection and automatically actuated electronic timer was tested in the thermosiphonic flow region. Calibration of the system was obtained by: (1) Comparing the system measurements to the experimental cold flow rates.

CO2 Thermosiphon for Competitive Geothermal Power Generation

Energy & Fuels, 2008
Engineered geothermal systems represent a significant unutilized energy source, with the potential to assist in meeting growing energy demands with clean, renewable energy. Traditional geothermal systems use water as the working fluid. An alternative working fluid is carbon dioxide which offers potential benefits including favorable thermodynamic and ...
