Microbial diversity in the thermal springs within Hot Springs National Park [PDF]
The thermal water systems of Hot Springs National Park (HSNP) in Hot Springs, Arkansas exist in relative isolation from other North American thermal systems. The HSNP waters could therefore serve as a unique center of thermophilic microbial biodiversity.

Production of DNA polymerase from Thermus aquaticus in recombinant Escherichia coli
Among dozens of DNA polymerases cloned from thermophilic bacteria, Taq DNA polymerase from Thermus aquaticus has been most frequently used in polymerase chain reaction (PCR) that is being applied to gene cloning, DNA sequencing, gene expression analysis,

Analysis of the spc ribosomal protein operon of Thermus aquaticus [PDF]
The gene region of Thermus aquaticus corresponding to the distal portion of the S10 operon and to the 5′‐portion of the Escherichia coli spc operon was cloned, using the E. coli gene for the ribosomal protein L5 as hybridization probe. The gene arrangement was found to be identical to E. coli, i.e. S17, L14, L24, L5, S14, S8 and L6.

The importance of circulating tumor products as „liquid biopsies” in colorectal cancer [PDF]
Liquid biopsies represent an array of plasma analysis tests that are studied to evaluate and identify circulating tumor products, especially circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA).

Collagen peptide from milkfish (Chanos chanos) may reduce RANKL‐induced osteoclast activity while promoting osteoblast synthesis, and therefore may act as a potential therapeutic agent for the prevention and control of osteoporosis. Abstract Osteoporosis is characterized by low bone mass, bone microarchitecture disruption, and collagen loss, leading to

Microbial transformation of elements: the case of arsenic and selenium [PDF]
Microbial activity is responsible for the transformation of at least one third of the elements in the periodic table. These transformations are the result of assimilatory, dissimilatory, or detoxification processes and form the cornerstones of many ...

Single-molecule microscopy reveals new insights into nucleotide selection by DNA polymerase I. [PDF]
The mechanism by which DNA polymerases achieve their extraordinary accuracy has been intensely studied because of the linkage between this process and mutagenesis and carcinogenesis. Here, we have used single-molecule fluorescence microscopy to study the
