Merging thesauri: principles and evaluation

IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, 1988
An investigation is reported of ways to take advantage of the semantics in thesauri to improve: (1) indexing by providing descriptions of documents as sets of terms from the thesaurus; and (2) retrieval by assessing the relevance of documents to a query. Thesauri need to be updated to account for the evolution of the field they cover.

A method for monolingual thesauri merging

open access: yesACM SIGIR Forum, 1997
Thesauri merging is the activity of consolidating a set of thesauri into a thesaurus which accommodates the vocabularies and the structure of all thesauri being merged. In this paper, we introduce a general framework for monolingual thesauri merging.

A Method on Chinese Thesauri

2017
In recent years, text analysis has become increasingly heated in many fields. And now, majority methods of text analysis are using Word2vec, Naive Bayes or so on to classify the large number of texts. But for the text itself, not all samples are useful for some high-requirement researches and only use one keywords to get the related sample is ...

STRUCTURED THESAURI

Aslib Proceedings, 1971
The first point that I would like to make about the differences between a structured and unstructured vocabulary is that the question is very much related to vocabulary size and this has certainly in the past generated a good deal of controversy in Aslib co‐ordinate indexing circles.

Augmenting thesauri for information systems

ACM Transactions on Information Systems, 1987
A thesaurus can be a critical component of an office information system. Access to various sets of documents can be facilitated by thesauri and by the connections that are made among thesauri. In the projects described in this paper, the thesauri are stored and manipulated through a relational database management system.

Effectiveness of thesauri-aided retrieval

SPIE Proceedings, 1999
In this report, we describe the results of an experiment designed to measure the effects of automatic query expansion on retrieval effectiveness. In particular, we used a collection-specific thesaurus to expand the query by adding synonyms of the searched terms. Our preliminary results show no significant gain in average precision and recall.

Relational thesauri in information retrieval

Journal of the American Society for Information Science, 1985
AbstractThis article describes the design and development of a new type of thesaurus based on lexical‐semantic relations. Relational thesauri have been constructed to perform a new type of term classification. These relational thesauri are generally applicable to any document collection and their maintenance is relatively simple.
