An approach to the automatic construction of global thesauri

Information Processing & Management, 1990
Abstract The benefits of a well constructed thesaurus to an information retrieval system have long been recognized by both researchers and practitioners in the field. Previous experiments have investigated the construction of thesauri by manual, semiautomatic, and automatic means.

Using automatic constructed thesauri instead of dictionaries in the verbal phraseological units validation task

Journal of Intelligent & Fuzzy Systems, 2020
Automatic validation of compositionality vs non-compositionality is a very challenging problem in NLP. A very small number of papers in literature report results in this particular problem. Recently, some new approaches have arised with respect to this particular linguistic task.

An Automatic Multi-domain Thesauri Construction Method Based on LDA

2011 10th International Conference on Machine Learning and Applications and Workshops, 2011
This paper proposed a method for building domain-specific thesauri automatically from plain text corpus based on Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA). This method consists of two steps: 1) discovering domain-specific terms from document collections of multiple domains, and 2) learning hierarchical relations between the associated terms of each domain. The

Improving Retrieval Performance with the Combination of Thesauri and Automatic Relevance Feedback

2006
The ever growing popularity of the Internet as a source of information, coupled with the accompanying growth in the number of documents available through the World Wide Web, is leading to an increasing demand for more efficient and accurate information retrieval tools. One of the fundamental problems in information retrieval is word mismatch. Expanding

Automatic Document Categorization Based on k-NN and Object-Based Thesauri

2004
The k-NN classifier(k-NN) is one of the most popular document categorization methods because of its simplicity and relatively good performance. However, it significantly degrades precision when ambiguity arises – there exist more than one candidate category for a document to be assigned.

Analysis of relation extraction methods for automatic generation of specialized thesauri: Prospect of hybrid methods

2016 19th Conference of Open Innovations Association (FRUCT), 2016
The paper is devoted to analysis of methods that can be used for automatic generation of specialized thesauri. The authors developed a test bench that allows to estimate most popular methods for relation extraction that constitute the main part of such generation.

Discussion about automatically organizing network education resources with multilingual thesauri-ontology

2009 IEEE International Symposium on IT in Medicine & Education, 2009
The types and the ways to organizing network education resources are surveyed. The multilingual thesaurus-ontology is explained. Then it discusses application of multilingual thesaurus-ontology in the organization of network education resources. The purpose of the application is to make network education resources maintain automatically, by the ...

The automatic generation of thesauri of related words for English, French, German, and Russian

International Journal of Speech Technology, 2008
A method for the automatic extraction of words with similar meanings is presented which is based on the analysis of word distribution in large monolingual text corpora. It involves compiling matrices of word co-occurrences and reducing the dimensionality of the semantic space by conducting a singular value decomposition.

Automatic Supervised Thesauri Construction with Roget’s Thesaurus

2012
Thesauri are important tools for many Natural Language Processing applications. Roget's Thesaurus is particularly useful. It is of high quality and has been in development for over a century and a half. Yet its applications have been limited, largely because the only publicly available edition dates from 1911.
