Theta‐gamma coupling and ApoE genotype in patients at risk for Alzheimer’s dementia [PDF]

open access: yesAlzheimer's & Dementia, 2020
AbstractBackgroundTheta‐gamma coupling (TGC) is an electroencephalography (EEG) marker of working memory and depends on robust synaptic plasticity within the recurrent prefrontal cortical networks (Rajji et al. 2017, Buszaski et al. 2012). ApoE4 allele has deleterious effects on synaptic plasticity (Teter et al. 2004).

Time‐Dependent Oxidation and Scale Evolution of a Wrought Co/Ni‐Based Superalloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study shows how a new wrought Co/Ni‐based superalloy resists oxidation at 800 ∘$^\circ$C. The oxide scale changes from rough, fast‐growing spinel to a dense, protective chromia–alumina layer. Atom probe analysis reveals tiny refractory‐rich bubbles at the interface that mark the transition to long‐term, diffusion‐controlled protection ...

Fear and Safety Engage Competing Patterns of Theta-Gamma Coupling in the Basolateral Amygdala [PDF]

open access: yesNeuron, 2014
Theta oscillations synchronize the basolateral amygdala (BLA) with the hippocampus (HPC) and medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) during fear expression. The role of gamma-frequency oscillations in the BLA is less well characterized. We examined gamma- and theta-frequency activity in recordings of neural activity from the BLA-HPC-mPFC circuit during fear ...

Theta-gamma phase-amplitude coupling in psychosis and healthy controls: Predicting working memory capacity across different tasks

open access: yesNeuroImage: Clinical
Theta-gamma phase-amplitude coupling has been proposed as a possible mechanism underlying working memory. Here, we assess whether cortical theta-gamma phase-amplitude coupling is related to working memory deficits in patients with psychosis, and whether ...

Microstructure Reconstruction in Battery Electrodes Using Machine Learning Based on Low‐Voltage Focused Ion Beam–Scanning Electron Microscopy Tomography Images

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐voltage FIB‐SEM tomography combined with a image preprocessing pipeline improves phase contrast and enables reliable machine‐learning segmentation of conductive networks in lithium‐ion battery electrodes. Structural descriptors are extracted from segmented images, done semimanually and automated, and compared.

Modeling Dislocation Cutting of γ′ Precipitates in Ni‐Base Superalloys: Linking Atomistic and Dislocation Dynamics Simulations

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Dislocation cutting of γ′ precipitates in Ni‐based superalloys is investigated by linking atomistic simulations with discrete dislocation dynamics. The critical cutting stress is shown to be governed by the antiphase boundary energy, while line tension effects promote edge‐preferred cutting.

Increasing motor skill acquisition by driving theta-gamma coupling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Abstract Skill learning is a fundamental adaptive process, but the mechanisms remain poorly understood. Hippocampal learning is closely associated with gamma activity, which is amplitude-modulated by the phase of underlying theta activity.

Spatial Reference Memory is Associated with Modulation of Theta–Gamma Coupling in the Dentate Gyrus [PDF]

open access: yesCerebral Cortex, 2015
Spatial reference memory in rodents represents a unique opportunity to study brain mechanisms responsible for encoding, storage and retrieval of a memory. Even though its reliance on hippocampal networks has long been established, the precise computations performed by different hippocampal subfields during spatial learning are still not clear. To study

Influence of Scan Strategies in Electron Beam Powder Bed Fusion on Solidification, Microstructure, and High‐Temperature Compressive Properties of γ′‐Strengthened Inconel 738LC

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Experiments and thermophysical simulations were conducted to investigate the electron beam powder bed fusion electron beam (PBF‐EB/M) process for the γ′‐strengthened nickel‐based superalloy Inconel 738LC. The results demonstrate the impact of process‐induced microstructural variations on high‐temperature mechanical behavior, providing a basis for ...
