Respiration and brain neural dynamics associated with interval timing during odor fear learning in rats

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2020
In fear conditioning, where a conditioned stimulus predicts the arrival of an aversive stimulus, the animal encodes the time interval between the two stimuli.

Different theta frameworks coexist in the rat hippocampus and are coordinated during memory-guided and novelty tasks

open access: yeseLife, 2020
Hippocampal firing is organized in theta sequences controlled by internal memory processes and by external sensory cues, but how these computations are coordinated is not fully understood.

Unraveling the Morphological and Functional Maturation Mechanisms Underlying Human Neural Development Using iPSCs‐Derived Neuronal Model

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Using human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs)‐derived neuronal model, Tian and colleagues reveal that voltage‐gated calcium channels Cav1.2 and Cav1.3, and their mediated calcium ion influx, are essential for early morphogenesis of human neuronal development, while ECEL1 underlies human neuronal functional developmental maturation through CALM3 ...

Systematic Benchmarking of a Noise‐Tolerant Conductive Hydrogel Electrode for Epidermal Bioelectronics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
General schematic of the approach. Abstract Conventional Silver/Silver Chloride (Ag/AgCl) electrodes remain the clinical standard for electrophysiological monitoring but are hindered by poor skin conformity, mechanical rigidity, and signal degradation, particularly under motion or sweat.

Closed-Loop Transcranial Ultrasound Stimulation for Real-Time Non-invasive Neuromodulation in vivo

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience, 2020
The closed-loop brain stimulation technique plays a key role in neural network information processing and therapies of neurological diseases. Transcranial ultrasound stimulation (TUS) is an established neuromodulation method for the neural oscillation in

Respiratory‐Limbic Coupling via a Thalamic Circuit Alleviates Anxiety

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study delineates a conserved preBötCGlu→PVT→CeA circuit that gates anxiety and respiration. Activation of this circuit is anxiolytic and respiratory‐stabilizing, while its inhibition has the opposite effect. Mechanistically, PVT exerts its anxiolytic action via a disinhibitory microcircuit: its inputs preferentially target CeL GABAergic neurons ...

Cortical Somatostatin Neurons Regulate Seizure Susceptibility via MINAR1/Gαs–cAMP Signaling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Our study identifies MINAR1 as a novel regulator of cortical interneuron excitability and seizure susceptibility. MINAR1 is preferentially expressed in SST+ interneurons. Genetic ablation of MINAR1 leads to seizure hypersensitivity, reduced SST+ neuron excitability, and impaired Gαs–cAMP signaling, disrupting the E/I balance.

Theta Oscillations and Reactivity of Hippocampal Stratum Oriens Neurons

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, 2010
The supposition was advanced that the neuronal theta rhythmicity is the key mode of signal selection at the hippocampal level. To address this hypothesis, the experimental data on the responses of putative hippocampal interneurons of the stratum oriens ...

Intrahemispheric theta rhythm desynchronization impairs working memory

open access: yesRestorative Neurology and Neuroscience, 2017
Background: There is a growing interest in large-scale connectivity as one of the crucial factors in working memory. Correlative evidence has revealed the anatomical and electrophysiological players in the working memory network, but understanding of the effective role of their connectivity remains elusive.

Encoding Cumulation to Learn Perturbative Nonlinear Oscillatory Dynamics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Weak nonlinearities critically shape the long term behavior of oscillatory systems but are difficult to identify from data. A data‐driven framework is introduced to infer governing equations of weakly nonlinear oscillators from sparse and noisy observations.
