Exponentially‐constrained Gaussian mixture model for quantifying vertical development of water‐conducting fracture zones in lithologically stratified mining roofs

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This study proposes an exponentially‐constrained Gaussian mixture model (EcGMM) to quantify vertical fracture heterogeneity in stratified roof strata. The model integrates a piecewise exponential decay term capturing global stress dissipation with Gaussian components representing localized fracture intensification at lithological interfaces.

Status and Prospects of Underground Thick Coal Seam Mining Methods [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
: Australia has very large thick seam coal resources. As a result, there has been ongoing research conducted by UNSW and others into suitable mining methods that are capable of safe, efficient and productive resource recovery.

Quantitative Study on the Law of Surface Subsidence Zoning in Steeply Inclined Extra-Thick Coal Seam Mining

open access: yes, 2022
The damage of overlying strata and ground surface caused by the one-time mining space is relatively severe in steeply inclined extra-thick coal seams. The unique law of surface subsidence at these conditions is still missing.

Numerical investigation of natural fracture activation and leakage risk during CO2 sequestration in depleted sandstone reservoirs

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This study investigates the hydro‐mechanical response and fracture evolution in depleted sandstone reservoirs during CO2 injection, considering both direct wellbore injection and hydraulic‐fracture‐assisted injection. The graphical abstract illustrates how CO2 injection induces dynamic stress redistribution, leading to natural fracture activation ...

Model-driven energy attenuation method for coal seam strong reflection

open access: yes, 2020
The reflection of coal seam in seismic data has the characteristics of strong energy, which makes the reflection of adjacent strata often concealed by the reflection of coal seam.

Dynamic prediction of coal and gas outburst risk based on quantitative analysis of stress–energy evolution and adaptive correction

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This study quantitatively analyzed the spatiotemporal evolution of stress redistribution ahead of the working face by integrating coal seam distribution, tectonic stress anomalies, gas pressure, and mining‐induced disturbances. An R‐value criterion for coal and gas outburst (CGO) risk assessment was established based on energy principles.

Lithium Metal Anode Fabrication: Methods, Challenges, and Strategies

open access: yesEcoEnergy, EarlyView.
Schematic illustration of four representative fabrication techniques for thin lithium metal anodes: extrusion, molten lithium infusion, electroplating, and physical vapor deposition (PVD). ABSTRACT The pursuit of ultra‐high energy‐dense lithium‐metal batteries (LMBs) has reignited the drive to fabricate ultrathin high‐quality lithium metal anodes. This

Key technology of pressure-relief gas extraction in low dynamic fracture zone of mining overburden in single ultra-thick coal seam

open access: yesMeitan kexue jishu
Different from the high gas and prominent mining areas in the middle east of China, the mining face of single thick and extra thick coal seam in the western mining area has a large amount of unloading gas and mainly originates from this coal seam, if the

Coal seam gas and associated water: a review paper

open access: yes, 2013
Coalbed methane (CBM) or coal seam gas (CSG) as it is known in Australia is becoming an increasingly important source of energy around the world. Many countries such as United States, Canada, Australia and China are investing in the CSG industry.

New understanding of coal seam distribution law: Coal accumulation model controlled by paleoclimate evolution

open access: yes, 2023
It is very important for coal and coal-measure gas exploration to correctly understand the distribution law of coal seam and its main control factors in different coal accumulation models. Based on the review of the theories and models of paleogeographic
