Damping Characteristics of Laminated Thick Plates

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1997
We develop the analysis for the exact three-dimensional viscoelastic solution for simply supported, thick multilayered composite plate strips. Each layer is assumed to possess monoclinic or higher material symmetry and to be perfectly bonded to adjacent layers.

Thickness Oscillations in Deformed Elastic Plate

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1979
The theory of elastic waves superposed on finite deformation is applied to the study of thickness oscillations in a deformed elastic plate. Perturbation scheme, based on multiple scales, is employed to obtain a set of governing equations for the amplitudes of transverse thickness oscillations which are perpendicularly polarized with each other.

Buckling of moderately thick composite plates

Composite Structures, 1991
Abstract In this paper an analysis of the buckling behaviour of anisotropic elastic plates is developed. The analysis is carried out by using a finite-element technique based on a shear-deformable plate model. Numerical results are also given relative to buckling of laminated plates under uniform axial compression, together with some comparisons ...

Feedforward control of plate thickness in reversing plate mills

Fourtieth IAS Annual Meeting. Conference Record of the 2005 Industry Applications Conference, 2005., 2005
As the plate thickness and temperature cannot be measured directly during rolling there is a strong need for well adapted models. The product quality can be increased by making use of measured plate data that are available from a previous pass. A feedforward control strategy is proposed to improve the regularity of the plate thickness.

Nonlinear vibrations of thick plates using mindlin plate elements

International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, 1980
AbstractLarge amplitude vibrations of Mindlin plates are studies using Lagrangian, isoparametric, quadrilateral elements with selective integration. Square, rectangular, circular and elliptical plates with clamped and simply supported boundary conditions are considered.

Measurement of Plating Thickness

Anti-Corrosion Methods and Materials, 1954
There are a number of reasons for applying metallic or non‐metallic coatings to metal articles, the most common being to prevent the atmosphere coming into contact with the base metal and setting up corrosion. Others are (a) to provide a means of sacrificial corrosion; (b) to enable the electro‐chemical potentials of two metals in contact to be kept ...
