Abstract The analysis of thick plates must allow for the additional deformations of the plate caused by transverse shearing, and appropriate equations for this were discussed in Section 2.7. These equations have been implemented in a variety of ways for rectangular finite elements but may meet with difficulties in triangular elements ...

International Journal of Solids and Structures, 2002
The paper deals with moderately thick plates, for which the transverse shear deformation (being neglected in Kirchhoff's thin-plate-theory) has to be taken into account. This is done in Reissner's and Mindlin's theories respectively, which are based, however, on different physical models.

Surface Motions of a Thick Plate
Journal of Applied Physics, 1958The motion of a thick elastic plate, infinite in two dimensions and bounded by air on the two parallel faces, has been studied. The plate is excited at a point on one face, as in Lamb's problem, by a force impulsive in time, and directed normal to the surface. The early motions of this surface have been described by Lamb.

Thickness Vibrations of Plates
1969The plate is infinite in extent and bounded by two parallel planes located at, say, x 2 ± h, as shown in Fig. 10. For our purposes, both faces of the plate may (or may not) be completely coated with electrodes which are infinitesimally thin. Since the electrodes are infinitesimally thin, all possible mechanical effects may be ignored.

Vibration of thick auxetic plates
Mechanics Research Communications, 2014Abstract This short communication investigates the effect of negative Poisson's ratio on the natural frequency of thick plates of arbitrary shape. Using the Mindlin plate theory, it was generally found that as the plate's Poisson's ratio becomes more negative, the Mindlin-to-Kirchhoff natural frequency ratio increases with decreasing rate.

Generalized Conforming Thick Plate Element
2009This chapter introduces how to use the generalized conforming theory to develop the plate element models for the analysis of both thick and thin plates. In Sect. 8.1 and 8.2, a review of the Reissner-Mindlin (thick) plate theory is firstly given, and then, a comparison between this theory and the Kirchhoff (thin) plate theory is presented.
