A new approach to plate theory based on through‐thickness homogenization

The new theory distances itself from the classical strategy where through the thickness displacement functions are assumed a priori. Instead, the homogenization is based on a single assumption that the plate response is a superposition of fundamental states.

In this study, various theories of composite laminated plates are extended to rectangular composite laminates resting on an elastic foundation. First, an analysis based on the classical theory of laminated plates is employed. Then the first-order Reissner-Mindlin theory is used for analyzing the laminates.
