Preliminary qualitative screening for cancer chemopreventive agents in Telfairia occidentalis Hook.f., Gnetum africanum Welw., Gongronema latifolium Benth. and Ocimum gratissimum L. from Nigeria [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The leaves of four plant foods commonly consumed in Nigeria namely Gnetum africanum (Igbo name: Ukazi), Gongronema latifolium (Igbo name: Utazi), Telfairia occidentalis (Igbo name: Ugu), Ocimum gratissimum (Igbo name: Nchoanwu), were each screened for ...

Method development for simultaneous detection of ferulic acid and vanillin using high-performance thin layer chromatography

open access: yesJournal of Analytical Science and Technology, 2014
BackgroundA simple, accurate, and reliable high-performance thin-layer chromatography (HPTLC) method was developed for separation and detection of ferulic acid and vanillin.MethodsSeparation of ferulic acid and vanillin was carried out on 20 × 10 cm thin

Non Thermal‐Driven Photocatalytic Ammonia Decomposition at Near‐Room Temperature on a Plasmonic Nanocone Array

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Plasmonic photocatalytic ammonia decomposition occurs at near‐room temperature on a plasmonic Au nanocone array under visible light illumination. The nanostructure efficiently harnesses plasmonic modes, leading to increased reaction rates upon plasmon decay.

Preparative thin-layer and column chromatography of prostaglandins

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1969
Analytical and preparative chromatographic methods for monounsaturated prostaglandins are described. The systems were developed specifically for separation of the various hydroxy epimers of prostaglandin E1 and F1 but also offer superior separations for ...

"Dry-column" chromatography of plant pigments [PDF]

open access: yes, 1973
Separation of plant pigments which can be accomplished on thin-layer silica plates with mixture of petroleum ether, halocarbon, acetone, and polar solvent can be readily translated into dry-column technique that yields reproducible chromatograms after ...

Tuning the Dielectric Properties of Individual Clay Nanosheets by Interlayer Composition: Toward Nano‐Electret Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The dielectric properties of clays are studied on the level of individual monolayers and functional double stacks. The material breakdown characteristics and charge storage performance are analyzed. For illustration, a defined charge pattern representing a cuneiform character is produced, written into a microscopic clay tile, referencing the origins of

Thin-layer chromatography of tissue lipids without extraction

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1970
Frozen tissue sections were applied directly to silica gel plates, and the lipids were separated by developing the plates in different solvent systems.

Removal of Steroid Hormone Micropollutants by an Electrochemical Carbon Nanotube Membrane Flow‐Through Reactor: Role of Concentration and Degradation Mechanisms

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A flow‐through electrochemical membrane reactor equipped with a carbon nanotube membrane eliminates the mass transfer limitation, achieving removals >97.5% for steroid hormone (SH) micropollutants through electrochemical adsorption and degradation, over a broad initial concentration varying from 50 to 106 ng L−1.

Boosting the Energy Density of “Anode‐Free” Lithium Metal Batteries via Electrospun Polymeric Scaffolds

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
While host structures are known to enhance the reversibility and safety of lithium metal deposition, their additional volume and weight often decrease the battery's energy density and specific energy. By combining a lightweight and porous scaffold of electrospun polymer with a thinner separator, this article demonstrates a simultaneous improvement of ...
