Stability of Thin-Walled Beams with Lateral Continuous Restraint

open access: yesTransactions of the VŠB: Technical University of Ostrava, Civil Engineering Series, 2015
Metal beams of thin-walled cross-sections have been widely used in building industry as members of load-bearing structures. Their resistance is usually limited by lateral torsional buckling.

Improved finite beam element method for analyzing the flexural natural vibration of thin-walled box girders

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2017
This study establishes the improved element stiffness and mass matrices of the thin-walled box girder, using a cubic Hermite polynomial shape function and based on an improved displacement function for shear-lag warping meeting the axial equilibrium ...

Analysis of thin-walled beams with variable monosymmetric cross section by means of Legendre polynomials

open access: yesStudia Geotechnica et Mechanica, 2019
This article deals with the vibrations of a nonprismatic thin-walled beam with an open cross section and any geometrical parameters. The thin-walled beam model presented in this article was described using the membrane shell theory, whilst the equations ...

Dynamic Stiffness Analysis of Curved Thin-Walled Beams

open access: yesShock and Vibration, 1993
The natural vibration problem of curved thin-walled beams is solved by the dynamic stiffness method. The dynamic stiffness of a curved open thin-walled beam is given.

A new approach to the identification of distortion modes of thin-walled structures based on plate/shell theory [PDF]

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2019
In this paper, a new approach to identify cross-section deformation modes is presented and utilized in the establishment of a high-order beam model for dynamic analyses of thin-walled structures.

Variable Stiffness Flexure Structures Enabled by Phase‐Change Gallium and Adhesive Interfacial Locking for Soft Robotic Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A flexure‐based variable stiffness structure is developed by integrating phase‐change modulation and adhesive interfacial locking of gallium. The design enables a wide stiffness variability, transitioning from soft, flexible behavior to rigid, load‐supporting performance.

Experimental and Numerical Investigation of Seismic Performance of UHPC Thin-Walled Short Piers

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2022
Rigid frame bridges with different heights of adjacent piers are inclined to crack the main girder at the pier-beam connection. This cracking occurs due to a significant difference in thrust stiffness between tall and short piers.

Thermomechanical Fatigue and Creep–Fatigue Interaction of Inconel 718 Additively Manufactured by Laser Beam Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Thermomechanical fatigue tests of laser beam powder bed fusion (PBF‐LB) Inconel 718 show that the additively manufactured material reaches almost the lifetimes of conventionally‐rolled material under no‐dwell conditions. Introducing dwell times at the maximum temperature markedly reduces the lifetimes due to pronounced grain boundary sliding associated

Creating Ti–Fe α/β Alloys by Diffusion‐Driven Solid‐State Processing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study proposes making alloys containing fast diffusing elements that are difficult to produce by ingot metallurgy, by diffusion‐driven solid‐state HIP processing of elemental powders and low‐temperature homogenisation. Here, novel Fe‐Ti α–β alloys are formed having fine α–β lamellae, a small β prior grain size without significant intermetallics ...

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.
