Tunneling of seismic body waves through thin high-velocity layers in complex structures

Studia Geophysica et Geodaetica, 1992
The hybrid ray-reflectivity method is applied to the problem of the transmission of the reflected wave field through a thin high-velocity layer (or through a thin stack of high velocity layers), situated in the overburden of the reflector. In the hybrid ray-reflectivity method, the standard ray method is applied in the smooth parts of the model, and ...

An embedded boundary method for an inviscid compressible flow coupled to deformable thin structures: The mediating body method

International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, 2019
SummaryThis article deals with fast transient phenomena involving fluids and structures undergoing large displacements and rotations, associated with nonlinear local behavior, such as plasticity, damage, and failure. A new approach is proposed to handle the interaction between a structure and the compressible fluid it is immersed into.

Evolution of Large-Scale Structures in the Wake of Sharp-Edge Thin Flat Bodies

2016
This thesis describes computational fluid dynamic study of the wake behind thin flat plates at Reynolds numbers large enough for the formation of energetic structures and turbulence. The dynamically rich behavior of unsteady turbulent wake of bluff bodies consists of energetic and large-scale structures generated through flow instabilities, which have ...

Collapse analysis of spot welded thin section members in a vehicle body structure at various impact velocities

KSME International Journal, 2003
The spot welded sections of automobiles such as the hat and double hat section members, absorb the most of the energy during the front-end collision. The purpose of this study was to analyze the collapse characteristics of spot welded section members with respect to the pitch of spot welds on flanges, through impact experiments and computation for para-

Structure determination of very thin epitaxial layers of metastable body centered cubic Co with ion channeling

Applied Physics Letters, 1994
The structure of a 20 Å thin Co layer embedded between Fe layers grown with molecular beam epitaxy on MgO is determined with ion beam channeling. From the position and the ratio of the widths of the angular yield profiles for different crystallographic directions, we show that Co is forced in the metastable body centered cubic structure.

Nonlinear modeling and analysis of thin dielectric elastomer structures as electro-elastic material bodies and surfaces

2020
Soft materials, which deform under an electrical stimulation pose exciting new options for a technologically new generation of load bearing mechanical devices such as soft robots, assistant devices or solid state aircrafts. Promising candidates for such soft, smart materials are dielectric elastomers (DEs), a special type of electroactive polymers ...

Application of the boundary element method for analysis of the antiplane shear of anisotropic bodies containing thin-walled structures

Journal of Mathematical Sciences, 2010
We have ascertained the limits of reasonable application of the classical boundary element method for the solution of the antiplane problem of the theory of elasticity in the study of bodies with thin-walled elements of structure and geometry. We have proposed an approach for the regularization of singular and quasisingular integrals, which appear ...

Suppression of Floating Body Effects in Polycrystalline Silicon Thin-Film Transistor by Schottky Source/Drain Structure

Japanese Journal of Applied Physics, 2006
Thin-film transistors (TFTs) with Schottky source/drain (S/D) structures were fabricated using NiSi and laser-annealed polycrystalline silicon (poly-Si) as Schottky barrier metals and active layers, respectively. The whole fabrication process was performed at low temperatures (

Suppression of the Floating-Body Effect in Poly-Si Thin-Film Transistors With Self-Aligned Schottky Barrier Source and Ohmic Body Contact Structure

IEEE Electron Device Letters, 2004
In this letter, we developed a new self-aligned Schottky barrier source and ohmic body contact (SSOB) method that can effectively suppress the floating-body effect in poly-Si thin-film transistors (TFTs). Experimental results show that the SSOB-TFTs give higher output resistance, less threshold voltage variation, improved subthreshold characteristics ...

ELASTIC WARPING IN THIN WALLED STRUCTURES TO IMPROVE TORSIONAL STIFFNESS IN CAR BODY

1999
The paper presents a simplified model in order to estimate the stiffness of open thin-walled structures with elastic warping. The analytical solution provided by the Vlasov theory for non symmetrical cases is obtained for concentrated and uniform torque.
