A Discrete Droplet Method for Modelling Thin Film Flows [PDF]
In this paper, we present a new model to simulate the formation, evolution, and break up of a thin film of fluid flowing over a curved surface. Referred to as the discrete droplet method (DDM), the model captures the evolution of thin fluid films by tracking individual moving fluid droplets.

An artificially-intelligent cornea with tactile sensation enables sensory expansion and interaction
We demonstrate an artificially-intelligent cornea that can assume the functions of the native human cornea such as protection, tactile perception, and light refraction, and possesses sensory expansion and interactive functions.

Quenched growth of nanostructured lead thin films on insulating substrates [PDF]
Lead island films were obtained via vacuum vapor deposition on glass and ceramic substrates at 80 K. Electrical conductance was measured during vapor condensation and further annealing of the film up to room temperature. The resistance behavior during film formation and atomic force microscopy of annealed films were used as information sources about ...

Effects of anisotropic in-plane strains on the phase diagram of BaxSr1-xTiO3 thin film [PDF]
Based on Landau-Devonshire (LD) phenomenological theory, phase diagram of epitaxial BST50/50 thin films on anisotropic in-plane strains is investigated. Different from BaTiO3 thin films, the paraelectric phase appears under the anisotropic misfit strains on BST50/50 thin films at the room temperature.

Vacancies in 2D materials can influence their properties, however controlling their formation remains a challenge. Here the authors show that selective etching of a 3D laminate with in-plane chemical ordering results in formation of MXenes with ordered ...

Multiplexed neurochemical transmission emulated using a dual-excitatory synaptic transistor
The ability to emulate multiplexed neurochemical transmission is an important step toward mimicking complex brain activities. Glutamate and dopamine are neurotransmitters that regulate thinking and impulse signals independently or synergistically ...

Gadolinium thin films as benchmark for magneto-caloric thin films [PDF]
We report on the preparation of Gadolinium thin films by means of sputter deposition on Silicon Oxide wafers. A series of samples with different buffer layers and various substrate temperatures has been produced. The film on an amorphous Tantalum buffer deposited at 773 K shows the highest increase of magnetization during the phase transition at the ...
