Influence of Dopant Nature on Biological Properties of ZnO Thin-Film Coatings on Ti Alloy Substrate
In this paper, ZnO and Co2+/Mg2+-doped ZnO thin films on TiAlV alloy substrates were obtained. The films were deposited by spin coating of sol-gel precursor solutions and thermally treated at 600 °C for 2 h, in air and slow cooled.

Effect of curvature on wetting and dewetting of proboscises of butterflies and moths [PDF]
Proboscises of butterflies are modelled as elliptical hollow fibres that can be bent into coils. The behaviour of coating films on such complex fibres is investigated to explain the remarkable ability of these insects to control liquid collection after ...

Marangoni flow of thin liquid film underneath a topographical plate
Marangoni flow occurs when a fluid-fluid free surface is exposed to a non-uniform thermal field. Recently, Marangoni flow has been used to fabricate micro/nano-structures in thin films, which is referred to as thermocapillary patterning.

Application of a Robin boundary condition to surface waves
Surface effects on deep-water gravity waves are investigated theoretically by the application of a Robin boundary condition with a complex Robin parameter, R=Rr+iRi.

Biomedical applications of Jones-matrix tomography to polycrystalline films of biological fluids [PDF]
Algorithms for reconstruction of linear and circular birefringence-dichroism of optically thin anisotropic biological layers are presented. The technique of Jones-matrix tomography of polycrystalline films of biological fluids of various human organs has

The dynamics of thin fluid films [PDF]
Not only are thin fluid films of enormous importance in numerous practical applications, including painting, the manufacture of foodstuffs, and coating processes for products ranging from semi-conductors and magnetic tape to television screens, but they are also of great fundamental interest to mathematicians, physicists and engineers.

Notes regarding the supply and drain pressure effects on a squeeze film damper [PDF]
Squeeze film dampers (SFD) are perhaps the most efficient devices that, can be used nowadays to control the shafts in airworthy turbo-compressors. Various other devices can be successfully used in land-based rotating machinery; however, due to space and ...

Microvorticity fluctuations affect the structure of thin fluid films [PDF]
The dynamic interaction of complex fluid interfaces is highly sensitive to near-contact interactions occurring at the scale of ten of nanometers. Such interactions are difficult to analyze because they couple self-consistently to the dynamic morphology of the evolving interface, as well as to the hydrodynamics of the interstitial fluid film.

Photoacoustic transients generated by laser irradiation of thin films
Irradiation of an optically thin layer immersed in a transparent fluid with pulsed laser radiation can generate photoacoustic waves through two mechanisms. The first of these is the conventional optical heating of the layer followed by thermal expansion,
