Thin Film Formation of Silica Nanoparticle/Lipid Composite Films at the Fluid−Fluid Interface
Langmuir, 2010We report a new and simple method for the formation of thin films at the interface between aqueous silica Ludox dispersions and lipid solutions in decane. The lipids used are stearic acid, stearyl amine, and stearyl alcohol alongside silica Ludox nanoparticle dispersions of varying pH.

A Fluid Actuator for Thin-Film Electrodes
Journal of Medical Devices, 2006Background. Cochlear implants have become an accepted and successful treatment for profound sensorineural deafness in both children and adults. Essential to the effective and efficient localized stimulation of the auditory nerves, is the position of the implant electrode array stimulating sites within the scala tympani (ST).

Complex fluids are a broad class of soft materials that serve important and useful functions in formulated products and biological systems alike. Typically, complex fluids comprise surfactants, particles, or polymers dispersed in water, which gives rise to unique nano-structure and flow behaviour.

Anomalous Sorption of Supercritical Fluids on Polymer Thin Films
Langmuir, 2006Unusual sorption has been reported in thin polymer films exposed to near-critical CO2. When the supercritical fluid approaches the critical point, the film appears to thicken, but it is not clear whether the film swells or there is an adsorption layer on the film surface.

Nucleation of calcium hydroxyapatite thin films from simulated body fluid
Calcium hydroxyapatite (CHA) formation was produced by biomimetic deposition on the surfaces of silica layers of the steel bands, using slightly modified simulated body fluid (SBF).

Fluid abrasive trimming of thin-film resistors
Microelectronics Reliability, 1976Thin-film nickel-chromium resistors have been trimmed using the fluid jet from an air brush. Micrometersized distilled water droplets impinge on the resistor surface at high velocity, eroding away resistor material, thereby increasing resistance. The need for top hats is eliminated.

On structural forces in thin fluid films at the critical point
Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, 2005Smooth approximations for structural force in thin fluid films near the critical point are presented to facilitate the usage of formulas derived in [J. Colloid Interface Sci. 278 (2004) 173-183] in experimental studies.

Fluid transport in thin film polymer processors
Polymer Engineering & Science, 1979AbstractAn analysis of fluid transport in a polymer processor consisting of a hollow vertical cylinder with rotating blades is presented. The action of the rotating blades causes a thin film to be deposited on the inner surface of the processor and a bow wave to form in front of the blade.
