Learning about the world: developing higher order thinking in music education

open access: yesThe Journal for Transdisciplinary Research in Southern Africa, 2012
Innovative thinking is an innate human capacity geared towards adaptation and survival. Theories of education accordingly aim at developing teaching-learning strategies that promote creative, problem-solving reasoning referred to as higher order thinking.

Educating to Think in Environmental Education

open access: yesSouthern African Journal of Environmental Education, 2003
Each epoch has a burning question it needs to address. Certainly, our age has to consider the ecological question. From a pedagogic standpoint, the ecological crisis is not only a question of lack of scientific knowledge, but also of thoughtlessness. Given this assumption, it can be supposed that the priority question in environmental education is that

Mycobacterial cell division arrest and smooth‐to‐rough envelope transition using CRISPRi‐mediated genetic repression systems

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing and phenotypic exploration in nontuberculous mycobacteria. In this Research Protocol, we describe approaches to control, monitor, and quantitatively assess CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing in M. smegmatis and M. abscessus model organisms.

Nuclear pore links Fob1‐dependent rDNA damage relocation to lifespan control

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Damaged rDNA accumulates at a specific perinuclear interface that couples nucleolar escape with nuclear envelope association. Nuclear pores at this site help inhibit Fob1‐induced rDNA instability. This spatial organization of damage handling supports a functional link between nuclear architecture, rDNA stability, and replicative lifespan in yeast.

Developing Critical Thinking, the Main Goal of Education [PDF]

open access: yesفصلنامه نوآوری‌های آموزشی, 2007
Great educators put emphasis on thinking and cultivating it as one of the main aims of education (Shariatmadary, 2003, p . 379; John Dewey (1916-1966); & Jonson, 2002, p. 102). Educational systems should provide conditions to cultivate childrens thinking.

Computational Thinking in Life Science Education

open access: yesPLoS Computational Biology, 2014
We join the increasing call to take computational education of life science students a step further, beyond teaching mere programming and employing existing software tools. We describe a new course, focusing on enriching the curriculum of life science students with abstract, algorithmic, and logical thinking, and exposing them to the computational ...

PARP inhibitors induce a senescence phenotype in non‐small cell lung carcinoma cell lines

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Talazoparib is the most potent inducer of senescence among different PARP1 inhibitors in human NSCLC cells. In the absence of PARP, no senescence phenotype was observed, demonstrating that PARP1 is necessary for the induction of senescence by this inhibitor.
