Alzheimer's disease (AD) is associated with neurodegeneration in vulnerable limbic and heteromodal regions of the cerebral cortex, detectable in vivo using magnetic resonance imaging. It is not clear whether abnormalities of cortical anatomy in AD can be

Optimizing crop loading of apples and pears - results 2004-2006 (foliar fertilizers, thinning) [PDF]
Main topics of the research-project FuE 03OE088 of “Bundesprogramm Ökologischer Landbau” (30.04.2004-31.12.2006) were the testing of foliar fertilizers in organic apples and pears, optimizing lime sulphur for blossom thinning, looking for alternatives ...

Deterministic Thinning of Finite Poisson Processes [PDF]
Let Pi and Gamma be homogeneous Poisson point processes on a fixed set of finite volume. We prove a necessary and sufficient condition on the two intensities for the existence of a coupling of Pi and Gamma such that Gamma is a deterministic function of ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Influence of stand density, thinning and elevated CO2 on stem wood density of spruce
Stem wood density (SWD) of young Norway spruce trees (Picea abies [L.] Karst.) growing at ambient (A variant, 350 µmol(CO2)/mol) and elevated (E variant, A + 350 µmol(CO2)/mol) atmospheric CO2 concentration inside of the glass domes with adjustable ...

Mitochondrial remodeling shapes neural and glial lineage progression by matching metabolic supply with demand. Elevated OXPHOS supports differentiation and myelin formation, while myelin compaction lowers mitochondrial dependence, revealing mitochondria as key drivers of developmental energy adaptation.
