Thiobacillus acidophilus: a study of its presence in Thiobacillus ferrooxidans cultures
Canadian Journal of Microbiology, 1980A study had been undertaken to account for the presence of Thiobacillus acidophilus in iron-grown cultures of Thiobacillus ferrooxidans. Attempts to adapt T. acidophilus to ferrous iron were not successful but the facultative autotroph grew to a limited extent in the spent medium of T. ferrooxidans and was able to grow oligotrophically.

Oxidative phosphorylation in Thiobacillus novellus
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1970Abstract A soluble cell-free fraction (144,000xg supernatent) catalyzed phosphorylation coupled to the oxidation of thiosulfate, succinate and ascorbate yielding P O ratios of 0.96, 1.9, and 0.76 respectively. However with NADH as the electron donor, the P O ratios were very low and ranged between 0.2 – 0.3.

Phenotypic Characteristics of Thiobacillus ferrooxidansStrains
Microbiology, 2001Phenotypic polymorphism of strains of Thiobacillus ferrooxidans isolated from various ecological niches was studied. The strains differed both in rates of growth and oxidation of Fe2+, S0, FeS2, and sulfide minerals contained in concentrate. Each strain, irrespective of its original environment, required a period of adaptation to a new substrate ...

[Thiobacillus ferrooxidans pili].
Mikrobiologiia, 1978The surface structures of Thiobacillus ferrooxidans were studied. When growing on a medium containing elemental sulphur, the cells possess peritrichously located filaments (piles) whose diameter varies from 4.5 to 7.0 nm and length, from 0.7 to 3.0 mcm. The cells of T. ferrooxidans do not have piles on a medium with ferrous iron. The physiological role

Cytochrome in Thiobacillus thiooxidans
Science, 1963Cytochrome is present in the autotrophic sulfur bacterium, Thiobacillus thiooxidans . As mediator in the final electron transfer to oxygen, the cytochrome participates in the oxidation of sulfur compounds by extracts of the organism.

Characteristics of Thiobacillus thioparus
Nature, 1960DURING investigations of the bacterial decomposition of thiosulphate and thiocyanate in effluents from gasworks, it became necessary to identify the organisms responsible. These were Thiobacilli, and one in particular, organism G, appeared identical with T. thioparus as described in Bergey1.

Oxidation of H2S in acid solution by Thiobacillus ferrooxidans and Thiobacillus thiooxidans
Process Biochemistry, 2001Abstract Qualitative and quantitative oxidation tests of H 2 S in acid solution were carried out using Thiobacillus ferrooxidans and Thiobacillus thiooxidans species. Experiments were performed using solutions of H 2 SO 4 (pH 2.0) containing H 2 S in initial concentrations ranging from 5 to 100 ppm, in shake flasks at 150 rpm and 30°C.

Enzymic sulphide oxidation by Thiobacillus concretivorus
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - General Subjects, 1969Abstract 1. 1. The oxidation of sulphide by Thiobacillus concretivorus, Thiobacillus thiooxidans and Thiobacillus thioparus is an enzymic process associated with cell membranes. 2. 2. The first reaction is an oxidative one involving electron transfer through the cytochrome system to oxygen. It is inhibited by sodium diethyldithiocarbamate
