Linear Polarization Study of the Corrosion of Iron in the Presence of Thiobacillus ferrooxidans Bacteria

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrochemical Science, 2012
An electrochemical investigation was conducted to evaluate the corrosion behavior of iron in deionized water (DIW) and medium salt in the pH range of 1 to 4. The times of immersion of the electrode in solutions were changed in the range of 0 to 120 hours.

Lipopolysaccharides of iron-oxidizing Leptospirillum ferrooxidans and Thiobacillus ferrooxidans.

open access: yesThe Journal of General and Applied Microbiology, 1988
Lipopolysaccharides were isolated from one strain of Leptospirillum ferrooxidans and three strains of Thiobacillus ferrooxidans. All strains contained 2-keto-3-deoxyoctonate (KDO), heptose(s) and glucosamine besides neutral sugars, but were devoid of phosphorus.

Mixotrophic Growth of a Thiobacillus ferrooxidans Strain [PDF]

open access: yesApplied and Environmental Microbiology, 1984
Mixotrophic growth of a Thiobacillus ferrooxidans strain is described. DNA moles percent guanine plus cytosine and homology determinations confirmed that the mixotrophically grown T. ferrooxidans cultures were not contaminated with heterotrophic Acidiphilium strains.

Toxins VapC and PasB from Prokaryotic TA Modules Remain Active in Mammalian Cancer Cells

open access: yesToxins, 2014
Among the great number of addictive modules which have been discovered, only a few have been characterized. However, research concerning the adoption of toxins from these systems shows their great potential as a tool for molecular biology and medicine.

Continuous leaching of uranium by Thiobacillus ferrooxidans.

open access: yesAgricultural and Biological Chemistry, 1976
The continuous culture of Thiobacillus ferrooxidans and the continuous leaching of uranium by it were investigated by means of an apparatus for single stage continuous culture. For the specific growth rate on ferrous sulfate medium, the optimum pH, temperature and aeration were between 2.3 and 2.7, between 29 and 34°C and above 5.0 × 10−7 gmole O2/ml ...

Heterotrophic Metabolism of the Chemolithotroph Thiobacillus ferrooxidans [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Bacteriology, 1971
Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase and the enzymes of the Entner-Doudoroff pathway, 6-phosphogluconate dehydrase and 2-keto-3-deoxy-6-phosphogluconate aldolase (assayed together), are induced during heterotrophic growth of Thiobacillus ferrooxidans on an iron-glucose-supplemented medium or on glucose alone.

Transposition of IST2 in Thiobacillus ferrooxidans

open access: yesMolecular Microbiology, 1994
SummaryThe genome of Thiobacillus ferrooxidans contains at least two different repetitive DNA elements. One of these elements, termed IS T2 has been sequenced and shown to exhibit the characteristics of a typical prokaryotic insertion sequence. Furthermore, preliminary evidence has implicated IS T2 in genomic rearrangements, although the mechanism of ...

A complementary study of hydrophobicity and surface charge of Thiobacillus ferrooxidans. The effect of ionic surfactants [PDF]

open access: yesActa Montanistica Slovaca, 2002
Hydrofóbnos a náboj buneènej steny sú rozhodujúce faktory poèiatoèného štádia adhézie baktérií na tuhé povrchy. Hydrofóbnos bakteriálnych buniek sa posudzuje najmä dvoma spôsobmi.

BIOOXIDATION OF MOUTEH REFRACTORY GOLD-BEARING CONCENTRATE BY AN ADAPTED THIOBACILLUS FERROOXIDANS [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Sciences, Islamic Republic of Iran, 2001
The Mouteh refractory pyrite concentrates at pulp densities of 1.5%, 3%, 4.5% and 6% were treated, using Thiobacillus ferrooxidans DSM 581 and the same bacteria adapted on the Mouteh pyritic concentrate.
