The requirement of low pH for growth of Thiobacillus thiooxidans
Archiv fr Mikrobiologie, 1971Thiobacillus thiooxidans was grown at constant pH. No growth was obtained above pH 4.3. Sulfur was oxidized over the entire range tested (pH 0.9 to 7.0). This was confirmed by pH shift experiments. Carbon dioxide fixation stopped 30 min after shift from low pH to neutral values.

On the uniqueness of the flagellum ofThiobacillus thiooxidans
Antonie van Leeuwenhoek, 1967The flagellum of the obligate chemolithotrophThiobacillus thiooxidans was found to retain its integrity and function under environmental conditions that characterize it as among the most stable of alloplasmatic structures. Although a simple, presumably unsheathed organelle approximately 17 mµ in diameter, it is operationally active at a hydrogen ion ...

Direct zinc sulphide bioleaching by Thiobacillus ferrooxidans and Thiobacillus thiooxidans
Biotechnology Letters, 1994Direct bioleaching (no iron(II) present) by Thiobacillus ferrooxidans mainly occurs on the surface of the very insoluble sulphides but is more important in solution when the sulphides are more soluble. In this case, Thiobacillus thiooxidans, normally not able to leach directly insoluble sulphides, has an effective leaching action.

Purification and Characterization of Inorganic Pyrophosphatase Thiobacillus thiooxidans
The Journal of Biochemistry, 1977An inorganic pyrophosphatase [EC 3.6.1.1] was isolated from Thiobacillus thiooxidans and purified 975-fold to a state of apparent homogeneity. The enzyme catalyzed the hydrolysis of inorganic pyrophosphate and no activity was found with a variety of other phosphate esters.

Biokinetics of Thiobacillus thiooxidans for manganese bioleaching
International Journal of Environment and Pollution, 2010The waste tailing of metals generated during mining processes is degrading the environment by increasing the soil toxicity, leading to disturbances in the ecosystem. This study was initiated to determine the biokinetics of Thiobacillus thiooxidans for manganese bioleaching in the presence of excess sulphur.

The Langmuir adsorption parameter X(Am) of a mixture of culture of Thiobacillus ferrooxidans and Thiobacillus thiooxidans indicates that these bacteria have preferential and competitive adsorption sites on furnace dust. The constant K(A) of the mixture significantly larger than that of each component, suggesting that a synergistic effect may occur in ...

Purification and characterization of 3-isopropylmalate dehydrogenase from Thiobacillus thiooxidans
Journal of Bioscience and Bioengineering, 20003-Isopropylmalate dehydrogenase was purified to homogeneity from the acidophilic autotroph Thiobacillus thiooxidans. The native enzyme was a dimer of molecular weight 40,000. The apparent K(m) values for 3-isopropylmalate and NAD+ were estimated to be 0.13 mM and 8.7 mM, respectively.

Oxidation of elemental sulfur by an enzyme system of Thiobacillus thiooxidans
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - General Subjects, 1965Abstract An enzyme present in the cell-free extracts of Thiobacillus thiooxidans oxidized elemental sulfur to thiosulfate in the presence of catalytic quantities of glutathione consuming 1 mole of O 2 for every mole of thiosulfate formed: The enzyme was partially purified and the purified preparation was free of sulfide-oxidizing activity and

Synergism effect of Thiobacillus Thiooxidans and Thiobacillus Ferrooxidans on the bio-etching
2013The synergism effect of Thiobacillus ferrooxidans(T.f) and Thiobacillus thiooxidans(T.t) on bio-etching metal material was studied. The rates of bio-etching copper, tin bronze, T10, 40Cr were analysed and compared while T.f, T.t and the mixture of T.f and T.t was used separately.
