Associations between environmental perchlorate, nitrate, and thiocyanate exposure and severe headache or migraine: a cross-sectional, population-based analysis [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurology
BackgroundEnvironmental contaminants may play a significant role in the development of migraine. Perchlorate, nitrate, and thiocyanate were selected for this study due to their known impact on thyroid function, which is closely linked to neurological ...

Solvation Structure and Dynamics of the Thiocyanate Anion in mixed N,N‐Dimethylformamide‐Water Solvents: A Molecular Dynamics Approach [PDF]

open access: yesChemPhysChem, Volume 26, Issue 6, March 15, 2025.
The solvation structure and dynamics of the SCN− anion in mixed N, N‐Dimethylformamide (DMF)‐water liquid solvents is investigated using classical molecular dynamics simulations. A preferential solvation of SCN− by the water molecules is observed in the first hydration shell, followed by a second shell consisting by both DMF and water molecules.

Thiocyanate and Endemic Goitre [PDF]

open access: bronzeNature, 1951
THE amount of thiocyanate has been determined in the blood of volunteers from Sumperk in Moravia and Roudnice in Bohemia, two districts in Czechoslovakia where the incidence of endemic goitre is high. In Sumperk, the investigations were carried out in both spring and autumn, but in Roudnice in the autumn only.

Development of Suspended Droplet Microextraction Method for Spectrophotometric Determination of Serum Iron [PDF]

open access: yesAnalytical Science Advances, Volume 6, Issue 1, June 2025.
ABSTRACT A facile, selective and sensitive method was devised for the Fe3+ quantification in low volume samples, such as bovine serum based on suspended droplet microextraction (SDME). Various process parameters such as concentrations of acid (1.5% hydrochloric acid), complexing agent (0.7% ammonium thiocyanate), quaternary ammonium salt (0.2% Aliquat ...

Inorganic Metal Thiocyanates [PDF]

open access: yesInorganic Chemistry
Metal thiocyanates are some of the earliest reported molecular framework materials and adopta diverse range of structures. This review describes the structures, properties and syntheses ofthe known binary and ternary thiocyanates. It provides a categorization of their diverse structures, and connects them to the structures of atomic inorganic materials.

Coke-oven wastewater treatment in a dual-chamber microbial fuel cell with thiocyanate-degrading biofilm enriched at the air cathode

open access: yesWater Science and Technology, 2022
Coke-oven wastewater is usually treated with the activated sludge process, which requires large amounts of electrical energy for aeration and sludge disposal. A more sustainable treatment is strongly required.

Higher Levels of Urinary Thiocyanate, a Biomarker of Cruciferous Vegetable Intake, Were Associated With Lower Risks of Cardiovascular Disease and All-Cause Mortality Among Non-smoking Subjects

open access: yesFrontiers in Nutrition, 2022
BackgroundEpidemiologic studies on cruciferous vegetable (CV) intake and cardiovascular disease (CVD) were inconclusive.ObjectiveTo investigate the associations of urinary thiocyanate, a biomarker of CV intake, with CVD and all-cause mortality among non ...

Equilibrium, kinetic and thermodynamic studies on the adsorption of thiocyanate by Steel slag in an Aqueous System [PDF]

open access: yesAdvances in Environmental Technology, 2017
The use of steel slag in an adsorption process for the removal of thiocyanate has been studied for the first time. Steel slag, a readily available by-product of the steel industry, can be a suitable candidate for the study of the adsorption of ...

Thiocyanate and Organic Carbon Inputs Drive Convergent Selection for Specific Autotrophic Afipia and Thiobacillus Strains Within Complex Microbiomes

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2021
Thiocyanate (SCN–) contamination threatens aquatic ecosystems and pollutes vital freshwater supplies. SCN–-degrading microbial consortia are commercially adapted for remediation, but the impact of organic amendments on selection within SCN–-degrading ...
