Lipid Nanoparticles as an Effective Strategy for Protecting Bioactive Compounds in Passion Fruit Seed Oil

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Lipid Science and Technology, EarlyView.
This schematic illustrates the encapsulation of Passiflora edulis seed oil (PFSO) into lipid nanoparticles (LNP‐PFSO), transforming waste into value. The nanoparticles, optimized for size (126 nm, PDI: 0.19), were characterized (SEM, FTIR, XRD) and tested for antimicrobial and antioxidant activities, with applications in food fortification or active ...

Sulfur Mineralogy at the Mars Phoenix Landing Site [PDF]

open access: yes
The Mars Phoenix Scout mission landed at the northernmost location (approx.68deg N) of any lander or rover on the martian surface. This paper compares the S mineralogy at the Phoenix landing site with S mineralogy of soils studied by previous Mars ...

Toward the Synthesis of 3,3‐Difluoro Deaminated Sialic Acid (C3DFKDN)

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Organic Chemistry, EarlyView.
The synthesis of protected C3‐difluoro KDN (C3DFKDN), an unnatural derivative of the sialic acid member, KDN, and key building block for KDN‐based chemical probes, is reported. Its 12‐step synthetic route starts from commercially available methyl d‐mannopyranoside and key steps include a Reformatsky reaction with ethyl bromodifluoroacetate, alkylation ...

Experimental Investigation and Characterization of Biodiesel From Aregmone ocheroleuca

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
The experimental investigation and characterization of biodiesel derived from Aregmone ochroleuca, a plant known for its oil‐rich seeds. The production of biodiesel from argemone oil, methanol, and potassium hydroxide catalysis through transesterification methods, and then characterized their properties, like the Effect of Reaction Temperature on ...

Sulfur Hazes in Giant Exoplanet Atmospheres: Impacts on Reflected Light Spectra [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Recent work has shown that sulfur hazes may arise in the atmospheres of some giant exoplanets, due to the photolysis of H_2S. We investigate the impact such a haze would have on an exoplanet's geometric albedo spectrum and how it may affect the direct ...

Synthetic Biology‐Based Engineering Living Therapeutics for Antimicrobial Application

open access: yesExploration, EarlyView.
This perspective highlights synthetic biology‐driven antibacterial strategies, focusing on three innovative approaches: engineered bacteriophages for precision bacterial targeting, reprogrammed microbes that detect quorum‐sensing signals or metabolites to release antimicrobials, and engineering mammalian cells that recognize pathogen‐associated ...

Industrial pilot‐scale study on the ripening and quality parameters of Toma Piemontese PDO raw milk cheese in ozone‐controlled atmosphere

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract BACKGROUND Non‐thermal technologies are becoming of high interest in dairy production as sustainable tools to enhance food safety. Raw milk cheeses present microbiological challenges due to spoilage and the absence of real thermal treatments. This study investigates an industrial application of gaseous ozone to control spoilage microflora on ...

Trophic strategies of freshwater nanoflagellates under variable run‐off scenarios

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography, EarlyView.
Abstract Terrestrial run‐off is increasing in temperate lakes due to climate change and can lead to loading of colored dissolved organic matter (cDOM) and nutrients, thus reducing light availability and increasing carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus. Run‐off events are highly irregular, resulting in temporal resource variability that may determine the ...

Microbially Influenced Corrosion in Epoxy‐Ceramic Coated Carbon‐Steel Cooler

open access: yesMaterials and Corrosion, EarlyView.
A significant localization of corrosion attacks up to 1 mm deep were found in coated carbon‐steel cooler. Corrosion products and biofilm were enriched in mixed bacterial community including the genera Sulfuritalea and Methylotenera. Analysis of metabolic markers confirmed their coexistence with sulfate‐reducing bacteria.
