The third body in the eclipsing system RR Lyn
Astronomy Reports, 2002Based on 70 years of published photoelectric observations, we have detected quasi-periodic cophased oscillations of the times of the primary and secondary minima of RR Lyn, one of the brightest and nearest eclipsing binaries in the northern sky (\(V = 5\mathop m\limits_. 54\); r=74 pc).

Expansion of the third-body disturbing function
18th Aerospace Sciences Meeting, 1980HE expansion of the disturbing function still remains one of the most important problems in celestial mechanics, both in planetary applications and artificial satellite problems. The expansion of the gravitational disturbing function in zonal and tesseral harmonics based on the Legendre polynomials is now relatively easy to perform with the help of ...

Third body flow during wheel-rail interaction
2008In a mechanism, when a contact occurs between two contactors, third body [1] is the generic name used to describe the material generated as a result of the contact interaction. Thus the wear phenomenom can be considered as the third body flow Qw definitely ejected from the contact area.

Effectiveness of the third body in the direct recombination of ions
Russian Journal of Physical Chemistry B, 2014The dynamics of the three-body recombination of the Cs+ and Br− ions with the formation of products with the lowest internal energy in the presence of the neutral atoms R = Hg, Xe, and Kr as third bodies is studied. The efficiency of the process is characterized by the effectivity function, which represents the dependence of the internal energy of the ...

Numerical simulation of the third body in fretting problems
Wear, 2011This study is devoted to the computation of realistic stress and strain fields at a local scale in fretting. Models are proposed to improve surface and volume modelling, by taking into account the heterogeneity of stress fields due to the irregular interface. This gives a new view toward damage mechanisms.

The role of a third body in fretting wear
2021One of the effects of fretting wear in a concentrated or flat contact is the formation of wear products, the so called "third body". Its role in further wear development is interpreted in different ways. The problem is more complex in the case of clamped joints, especially those made by forcing in. The wear products are formed already

Physico-Chemical Modeling of Third Body Rheology
STLE/ASME 2010 International Joint Tribology Conference, 2010The well-known concept of third body was introduced by Godet in the seventies to characterise the discontinuous and heterogeneous interface that separates two bodies in contact. This thin layer (from some nanometers to some micrometers high) appears to possess its own rheology depending of contact conditions, material properties and often, extra ...
