Familial Thoracic Aortic Dissection.

Radiologic technology, 2021
This case report details familial aortic dissection in 2 second-degree blood relatives who experienced sudden aortic dissections. One patient underwent emergency computed tomography angiography (CTA) and the other underwent magnetic resonance angiography (MRA). These imaging examinations were instrumental in revealing each patient's condition.

Abdominal aortic rupture simulating thoracic dissection

The British Journal of Radiology, 1979
A rupture of the abdominal aorta can exhibit the clinical and radiographic findings of a thoracic dissection. We wish to stress the need for arteriographic assessment of the entire aorta when thoracic aortic dissection or rupture is suspected. A 63-year-old man, six years after resection of an infrarenal aortic aneurysm and placement of an aorto-iliac ...

Resident's knowledge on thoracic aortic dissection

Postgraduate Medical Journal, 2008
Cases of thoracic aortic dissection (TAD) are likely to increase in India as longevity increases. According to Olsson et al ,1 the incidence of thoracic aortic disease is 16.3 and 9.1 per 100 000/year for men and women, respectively. The Government General Hospital, Chennai, India, where the study was carried out, has over 2800 beds and an in-patient ...

Familial Thoracic Aortic Aneurysms and Dissections

Journal of Forensic Sciences, 1998
Abstract Rupture of thoracic aortic aneurysms and/or dissections is not rare, occurring in approximately 0.6% of all medicolegal autopsies. Most forensic pathologists are aware of the association between thoracic aortic aneurysms/dissections and trauma, atherosclerosis, inflammation and Marfan syndrome.

CT findings in thoracic aortic dissection

American Journal of Roentgenology, 1981
Computed tomography (CT) findings in 11 cases of aortic dissection were correlated with aortographic, surgical, or postmortem findings. In another two patients, the CT findings were considered diagnostic of aortic dissection but no further workup was performed. All the CT examinations were made before and after bolus injection of contrast.

Acute thoracic aortic dissection: The basics

The Journal of Emergency Medicine, 1997
With an increasing incidence, aortic dissection is the most common acute illness of the aorta. In the setting of chronic hypertension, with or without other risk factors for aortic dissection, this diagnosis should be considered a diagnostic possibility in patients presenting to the emergency department with acute chest or back pain.

Abdominal Aortic Resection in Thoracic Dissection

Archives of Surgery, 1976
Dissection nearly always begins in the thorax, but it commonly extends into the abdominal aorta, which may become the focal point of the disease. We report five patients who illustrate the surgical management of this disease variant. Clinical manifestations included retroperitoneal rupture, expanding false aneurysm, and lower aortic occlusion.

Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump Simulating Thoracic Aortic Dissection

Journal of Computer Assisted Tomography, 2018
Abstract We present a 70-year-old woman who had an intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) in its deflated state in the aorta during a computed tomography angiogram scan. The scan was performed to assess for aortic dissection. The deflated IABP created a curvilinear filling defect in the aortic lumen that suggested an intimal flap.
