Evaluation of Curve Flexibility Using Scoliotic Spines Generated From a Generic Spine Model

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Biomedical Engineering, Volume 42, Issue 9, September 2026.
This study presents a modelling procedure to evaluate curve flexibility in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis. Models were generated from a previously assessed adolescent spine model, with patient radiographs used to estimate traction forces. Sequential spinal release simulations were conducted.

Fetal Pathogenesis of Scoliosis Suggested by Asymmetry of Gene Expression in Paravertebral Muscles

open access: yesJOR SPINE, Volume 9, Issue 3, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Background The dysfunction of paravertebral muscles may contribute to the development of idiopathic scoliosis. Several candidate genes have been linked to scoliosis, but the underlying mechanisms and cell types remain unclear. Methods We initially included 40 idiopathic scoliosis cases and 19 controls. Muscle biopsies were obtained bilaterally

The Relationship Between Breast Volume and Thoracic Kyphosis Angle

open access: yes
Objective: It has been hypothesized that a disproportionate upper body weight caused by macromastia places abnormal stress on the spine, which may lead to skeletal abnormalities.

Correlations among four measures of thoracic kyphosis in older adults [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
SummaryThere are many ways to measure thoracic kyphosis ranging from simple clinical to more complex assessments. We evaluated the correlation among four commonly used kyphosis measures: Cobb angle, Debrunner kyphometer, kyphotic index, and the blocks ...

Clinical measurement of the thoracic kyphosis. A study of the intra-rater reliability in subjects with and without shoulder pain

open access: yesBMC Musculoskeletal Disorders, 2010
Background Clinical sagittal plane assessment of the thoracic kyphosis angle is considered an essential component of the postural examination of patients presenting with upper body pain syndromes. Cervical headaches and conditions involving the shoulder,

Relationship between thoracic kyphosis angle, dyspnea perception, and disease-specific health status in patients with COPD

open access: yes, 2021
Purpose: This study was carried out to examine the relationship between thoracic kyphosis angle, dyspnea perception, and disease-specific health status in patients with COPD and thus to reveal the postural effect. Methods: A total of 105 patients (68.10±8.

Connective tissue and genetics in the pathogenesis of rectal prolapse: A scoping review

open access: yesColorectal Disease, Volume 28, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract Aim Rectal prolapse can occur in individuals who lack the established risk factors (constipation, obstetric trauma and advanced age). A recognised association with hereditary connective tissue diseases may indicate a role for variants in connective tissue‐related genes in the pathogenesis of the disease.

EVALUATION OF CERVICAL LORDOSIS IN PATIENTS WITH ADOLESCENT IDIOPATHIC SCOLIOSIS

open access: yesColuna/Columna
Introduction: In healthy individuals and in patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS), the curvature of the cervical spine varies greatly, with approximately 36-40% of AIS patients having kyphosis of the cervical spine.
