Co‐occurring KEAP1 and TP53 mutations in lung squamous cell carcinoma induced primary resistance to thoracic radiotherapy: A case report

open access: yesThoracic Cancer, 2023
In lung squamous cell carcinoma, KEAP1 mutations frequently coexist with TP53 mutations. A preclinical model showed that mutations leading to the activation of the KEAP1–NRF2 pathway contribute to clinical radioresistance.

European multicentre study on outcome of surgery for sporadic primary hyperparathyroidism

open access: yesBJS (British Journal of Surgery), EarlyView., 2020
Some 5861 patients undergoing first‐time surgery for sporadic primary hyperparathyroidism were registered in the Eurocrine® database between 2015 and 2018. The use of intraoperative parathyroid hormone measurement decreased the risk of conversion and persistent hypercalcaemia.

Outcomes and Surgical Management of Malignant Rhabdoid Tumor of the Kidney: A Report From the Pediatric Surgical Oncology Research Collaborative

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Purpose Malignant rhabdoid tumor of the kidney (MRTK) is a rare, aggressive tumor seen in young children. The optimal timing of resection for locally advanced tumors is not well‐defined. The purpose of this study is to evaluate modern oncologic outcomes and the impact of surgical timing. Methods A multicenter retrospective review was performed

Clinical outcomes and toxicity predictors of thoracic re-irradiation for locoregionally recurrent lung cancer

open access: yesClinical and Translational Radiation Oncology, 2020
Background and purpose: Thoracic re-irradiation may be an alternative treatment for lung cancer patients who develop intrathoracic locoregional recurrence without systemic progression.

Bronchial and arterial sleeve resection for centrally-located lung cancers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The use of bronchial and arterial sleeve resections for the treatment of centrally-located lung cancers, when available, has become the option of choice in comparison with pneumonectomy (PN). Technical expertise, in particular in vascular reconstruction,

Dual targeting of RET and SRC synergizes in RET fusion‐positive cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Despite the strong activity of selective RET tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), resistance of RET fusion‐positive (RET+) lung cancer and thyroid cancer frequently occurs and is mainly driven by RET‐independent bypass mechanisms. Son et al. show that SRC TKIs significantly inhibit PAK and AKT survival signaling and enhance the efficacy of RET TKIs in ...

Institutional experience of using active breathing control for paediatric and teenage patients receiving thoraco-abdominal radiotherapy

open access: yesClinical and Translational Radiation Oncology, 2023
Introduction: Active Breathing Control (ABC) is a motion management strategy that facilitates reproducible breath-hold for thoracic radiotherapy (RT), which may reduce radiation dose to organs at risk (OARs). Reduction of radiation-induced toxicity is of

Salvage resection of advanced mediastinal tumors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The surgical treatment of locally advanced mediastinal tumors invading the great vessels and other nearby structures still represent a tricky question, principally due to the technical complexity of the resective phase, the contingent need to carry out

Methylation biomarkers can distinguish pleural mesothelioma from healthy pleura and other pleural pathologies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We developed and validated a DNA methylation–based biomarker panel to distinguish pleural mesothelioma from other pleural conditions. Using the IMPRESS technology, we translated this panel into a clinically applicable assay. The resulting two classifier models demonstrated excellent performance, achieving high AUC values and strong diagnostic accuracy.

Radiotherapy Response Patterns in Thoracic NUT Carcinoma: A Case Report

open access: yesRespirology Case Reports
NUT carcinoma is a rare and highly aggressive malignancy, particularly when arising in the thorax. Radiotherapy is commonly used for symptom palliation; however, radiotherapeutic response patterns in thoracic NUT carcinoma remain poorly characterised. We
