Thoracoscopic Thymectomy Mid-Term Results

The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 2006
Results of thymectomy in patients with myasthenia gravis need to be reported in a standardized way to allow accurate comparison.A retrospective study was conducted of 107 patients with myasthenia gravis without thymoma. Patients were followed-up for more than 12 months after thoracoscopic thymectomy and analyzed according to Myasthenia Gravis ...

Complete Thoracoscopic Thymectomy (cT-Thymectomy)

2012
In “complete thoracoscopic thymectomy” (cT-Thymectomy), “c” indicates that the surgical procedure is carried out entirely by means of endoscopy (closed chest). The operation is usually approached from the left but can be approached bilaterally if necessary.

Combined Unilateral-Thoracoscopic and Mediastinoscopic Thymectomy

The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 2010
To achieve maximal benefit, after thymic tissue and mediastinal fat were removed by thoracoscopic thymectomy, a transverse cervical incision allowed access to remove fat in the neck. A mediastinoscopy was then performed for removal of the fat in the retrosternal area superior to the innominate vein. In 15 cases, ectopic thymic tissue was found.

Robot-assisted thoracoscopic thymectomy: perianaesthetic concerns

European Journal of Anaesthesiology, 2010
Robot-assisted thoracoscopic thymectomy has brought new challenges to the anaesthesiologists. Here we present a study of 17 patients undergoing robotic thymectomy. The present study was a prospective study, which included 17 patients with myasthenia gravis scheduled for robot-assisted thoracoscopic thymectomy.

Thoracoscopic Thymectomy in a Previous Sternotomy

Asian Cardiovascular and Thoracic Annals, 2006
A video assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) thymectomy is a viable alternative to conventional open thymectomy in myasthenia gravis (MG). A previous operation in the same anatomical region is generally considered a relative contraindication to any minimally invasive approach in the same area. Few cases of VATS on previously operated chests have been

Thoracoscopic thymectomy for myasthenia gravis

Minimally Invasive Therapy & Allied Technologies, 1999
SummaryPatients with myasthenia gravis and an enlarged thymus commonly undergo surgical thymectomy through a sternotomy. The recent development of laparoscopic techniques and the rapid return to baseline patient function after laparoscopic surgery has led to the reevaluation of the surgical approach.

Thoracoscopic thymectomy using a left-side approach

The Multimedia Manual of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery, 2018
The surgical treatment of myasthenia gravis involves the complete resection of the thymus and the mediastinal fat between the two phrenic nerves. This procedure has been shown to have a positive impact on the rate of remission. In this video tutorial we illustrate the technical aspects of radical thymectomy using a left thoracoscopic approach.

Video‐assisted thoracoscopic thymectomy for myasthenia gravis

Internal Medicine Journal, 2002
Abstract Background: Thymectomy is an effective, but radical therapy for myasthenia. Video‐assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) may allow a minimally invasive alternative to the standard sternotomy approach. Aims: To audit prospectively the outcome of VATS thymectomy for myasthenia gravis in a unit specializing in advanced VATS techniques. Methods: Twenty‐
