Redefining CHI3L1: Therapeutic Opportunities at the Crossroads of Immune Suppression and Disease Progression

open access: yesMedicinal Research Reviews, Volume 46, Issue 6, Page 1897-1921, November 2026.
ABSTRACT Chitinase‐3‐like‐1 (CHI3L1, also known as YKL‐40) has been recognized as a biomarker of inflammation and tissue remodeling and has now emerged as a pseudoenzymatic immune checkpoint. Recent structural, immunological, and translational studies redefine it as an active regulator of immune suppression rather than a passive disease marker. Despite

Enhanced Ultrasound Transmission Through Aberration Layers Using Space‐Coiling Acoustic Metamaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 28, Issue 19, 7 October 2026.
Enhancing ultrasound transmission through an aberration layer exhibiting mismatched impedance with the surrounding medium possesses great implications in imaging and treatment. In this study, we show that a space‐coiling acoustic metamaterial with judiciously tailored structural profile can help improve impedance matching.

Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy for lung cancer: Correlation between dose and volume

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, Volume 27, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract Background In lung cancer radiotherapy, the volume of the lung receiving a dose above 20 Gy (V20Gy) and the mean lung dose are widely recognized dosimetric indicators for predicting radiation pneumonitis. However, there is currently no unified model to predict the minimum achievable values of V20Gy and mean lung dose.

Introducing a novel prediction index for treatment quality of gamma knife and stereotactic‐based radiotherapy: Nabaa Efficiency Index (ηNabaa$\eta^{{\mathrm{Nabaa}}}$)

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, Volume 27, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract Background An accurate assessment of the radiotherapy plans requires an accurate dose to the target and efficient confinement of the doses. However, present indices do not completely cover these aspects in a single framework. Purpose To develop a unified, dimensionless metric that integrates geometric conformity and dosimetric efficiency for ...

Automated decision support tool for static angle modulated ports configuration in VMAT with dynamic collimator rotation for head and neck cancer

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, Volume 27, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract Background RapidArc Dynamic (RAD; Varian Medical Systems, Palo Alto, CA) is a novel volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) technique that features dynamic collimator rotation synchronized with gantry rotation. RAD enables the use of static angle‐modulated ports (STAMPs) defined by user selected gantry and collimator angles.

Feasibility of lattice radiation therapy using a noncoplanar vertex arrangement and dynamic conformal arcs

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, Volume 27, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract Background Current Lattice radiation therapy (LRT) mainly uses inverse IMRT/VMAT optimization, which is time‐consuming and complex; however the high modulation complexity compromises dosimetric accuracy and blurs the peak‑to‑valley dose ratio.
