Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

A numerical study of strained three-dimensional wall-bounded turbulence

open access: yes, 2000
Channel flow, initially fully developed and two-dimensional, is subjected to mean strains that emulate the effect of rapid changes of streamwise and spanwise pressure gradients in three-dimensional boundary layers, ducts, or diffusers.

Three dimensional lung models - Three dimensional extracellular matrix models

open access: yes, 2022
In vitro models for investigating mechanisms underlying repair and regeneration in lung disease have advanced greatly in the last decades. Of these models, three-dimensional (3D) models are particularly interesting, owing to their enhanced resemblance of the physiological conditions in vivo.

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Septin 9 PB domains coordinate centrosome positioning and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Septin 9 polybasic domains couple phosphoinositide‐rich membrane binding to centrosome positioning, Golgi organization, and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity. Their loss disrupts this axis, causing centrosome mispositioning, Golgi fragmentation, reduced microtubule acetylation, and polarity inversion via upregulation of the ...

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

A MODEL OF THREE-DIMENSIONAL LATTICE GRAVITY [PDF]

open access: yesModern Physics Letters A, 1992
A model is proposed which generates all oriented 3D simplicial complexes weighted with an invariant associated with a topological lattice gauge theory. When the gauge group is SUq(2), qn=1, it is the Turaev-Viro invariant and the model may be regarded as a nonperturbative definition of 3D simplicial quantum gravity. If one takes a finite Abelian group

Modelling stem cell differentiation related processes—A practical overview for biologists

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Stem cell differentiation is complex and difficult to control experimentally. This review introduces suitable computational modelling approaches that can support stem cell research, from mechanistic ODE and abstract models to multiscale and deep learning methods.

Decoding the dynamic extracellular matrix in cancer—3D models and bioscaffolds rewire the rules of tumor progression

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cancer progression is regulated by the dynamic matrix code of the tumor microenvironment, which influences cellular behavior and disease development. Importantly, matrix remodeling in three‐dimensional cancer models more accurately reflects in vivo conditions compared to conventional two‐dimensional systems.

Building Three Dimensional Head Models

open access: yesGraphical Models, 2001
Summary: This paper proposes a camera-based real-time system for building a three-Dimensional (3D) human head model. The proposed system is first trained in a semiautomatic way to locate the user's facial area and is then used to build a 3D model based on the front and profile views of the user's face. This is achieved by directing the user to position
