A Two-Stage Intelligent Inversion Model for Subsurface Temperature–Salinity Profiles in the South China Sea Using Satellite Surface Observations: A Smart Synthetic Ocean Profile Model

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
Ocean temperature and salinity structures are crucial in understanding ocean circulation and heat–salt transport processes. However, the high cost and limited spatiotemporal coverage of in situ observations make it difficult to reconstruct high ...

Three-dimensional effective theories for the two Higgs doublet model at high temperature

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2019
Due to the infrared problem of high-temperature field theory, a robust study of the electroweak phase transition (EWPT) requires use of non-perturbative methods. We apply the method of high-temperature dimensional reduction to the two Higgs doublet model

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

Karl Popper and the Mechanisms of Hydrogen Embrittlement

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Representation of the beginning of loss of ductility rather than embrittlement. Small concentrations of hydrogen in a diffusible form within iron are well‐established to harm the mechanical integrity of steels. There are theories that attempt to explain the pernicious role of hydrogen.

Fostering Innovation: Streamlining Magnetocaloric Materials Research by Digitalization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Magnetocaloric cooling (MCE) is an environmentally friendly refrigeration method with great potential. Optimizing MCE materials involves the preparation and screening of large quantities of samples, which in turn generates a large amount of data. A digitalization approach is presented that uses ontologies, knowledge graphs, and digital workflows to ...

Is an Apple an Orange? A Large Language Model Benchmark for Candidate Term Extraction and Subclass Decisions Against Upper Ontologies in Engineering and Materials Science

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Building machine‐readable vocabularies for materials science is slow, expert‐driven work. This study benchmarks 13 large language models on two of its first steps: finding candidate terms in engineering articles and deciding where they belong in a class hierarchy.

Superconducting Properties of 3D Low-Density TI-Bipolaron Gas in Magnetic Field

open access: yesCondensed Matter, 2019
Consideration is given to thermodynamical properties of a three-dimensional Bose-condensate of translation-invariant bipolarons (TI-bipolarons) in magnetic field. The critical temperature of transition, critical magnetic fields, energy, heat capacity and

Symbolic Regression and Multi‐Objective Optimization of the Flory–Huggins Interaction Parameter for Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We develop a data‐driven method to derive the mathematical expressions of the Flory–Huggins interaction parameter χ for the swelling behavior of temperature–responsive hydrogels. Starting from initial assumptions of χ, our workflow combines Bayesian optimization, Flory–Rehner theory, and symbolic regression to generate candidate χ expressions.
