Around and Through: Successful Mitral Paravalvular Leakage Closure Using Both Anterograde and Retrograde Approaches

open access: yesCatheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, Volume 107, Issue 7, Page 2179-2182, June 1, 2026.
ABSTRACT Paravalvular leak (PVL) is a recognized complication after surgical mitral valve replacement and may cause heart failure, pulmonary hypertension, or hemolysis when moderate or severe. Although redo surgery is the definitive treatment, it carries substantial risk in elderly patients or those with multiple prior cardiac surgeries.

The Efficacy of Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion During Thoracoscopic Epicardial AF Ablation for Improving Rhythm and Cardiac Function in Patients With Heart Failure

open access: yesJournal of Arrhythmia, Volume 42, Issue 3, June 2026.
Thoracoscopic epicardial AF ablation in heart failure improved LV systolic function irrespective of left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO). Concomitant surgical LAAO was associated with fewer LPV reconnections without worsening postoperative diastolic function, while atrial tachyarrhythmia recurrence was similar between groups.

Intra‐Procedural Three‐Dimensional Rotational Angiography in Cryoballoon Ablation of Atrial Fibrillation: An RCT

open access: yesPacing and Clinical Electrophysiology, Volume 49, Issue 6, Page 707-713, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Background The impact of various imaging techniques on the safety and outcomes of atrial fibrillation (AF) ablation remains unclear. Intra‐procedural three‐dimensional rotational angiography (3DRA) is the least used imaging method despite some benefits.

From Clinic to Computation: Multiscale Bioengineering Strategies for Durable Biological Aortic Valve Replacements

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 36, Issue 39, 14 May 2026.
Bioprosthetic aortic valves have revolutionized the treatment of aortic stenosis, but their durability is limited by structural valve deterioration (SVD). This review focuses on the pericardial tissue at the heart of these valves, examining how its mechanical properties and calcification drive fatigue and failure.

4D Flow Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance Versus 3D Transesophageal Echocardiography in a Mitral Paravalvular Leak

open access: yesJACC: Case Reports, 2019
Three-dimensional transesophageal echocardiography and 4-dimensional flow magnetic resonance imaging as complementary techniques in the preoperative planning of a mitral paravalvular leak allow the evaluation of its location, shape, and size and ...

Quantitative analysis of mitral valve apparatus in mitral valve prolapse before and after annuloplasty: a three-dimensional intraoperative transesophageal study.

open access: yes, 2011
Intraoperative real-time three-dimensional transesophageal echocardiography has been shown useful in the evaluation of the mitral valve (MV) apparatus, and dedicated commercial software allows its quantitative assessment.

Intracardiac Extension of Lung Carcinoma Presenting as an Atrial Myxoma: A Case Report

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Left atrial (LA) mass is most commonly presumed to be a cardiac myxoma, as it is approximately 75% of primary cardiac tumors, with a strong predilection for the LA. In rare instances, primary lung carcinoma may extend to the LA, creating an intracardiac mass indistinguishable from a myxoma on initial echocardiographic assessment.

Live three-dimensional transesophageal echocardiography in mitral valve surgery

open access: yesChinese Medical Journal, 2008
Live three-dimensional transesophageal echocardiography (live-3D-TEE) is a new technique, but its clinical value is unclear at present. This study aimed to investigate the feasibility, imaging quality and accuracy of live-3D-TEE for assessing mitral valve morphology to determine if live-3D-TEE has important value in mitral valve surgery.Twenty-four ...

Intraoperative transesophageal echocardiography of atrioventricular septal defect

open access: yes, 1991
To determine the accuracy and utility of single-plane transesophageal echocardiography in analyzing atrioventricular (AV) septal defect, intraoperative transesophageal echocardiography was performed before and after institution of cardiopulmonary bypass ...

Daily Remote Monitoring of Pediatric Patients With Cardiac Implantable Electronic Devices: Early Arrhythmia Detection and Timely Clinical Intervention

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT In recent years, significant progress has been made in the management of pediatric arrhythmias through the use of cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs) such as pacemakers (PMs) and implantable cardioverter‐defibrillators (ICDs).
