Investigating the bending properties of cardiovascular catheters and stents via three-point bending test setup

open access: yesCurrent Directions in Biomedical Engineering
The bending properties of catheters and stents have a big influence on their success during clinical application. Whereas bending stiffness directly affects the trackability of catheters, stents underlie bending when used for renal, superficial femoral ...

Matrix metalloproteinase‐9 regulates cell adhesion and membrane protrusive activity of ovarian cancer cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Matrix metalloproteinase‐9 (MMP9) drives ovarian cancer progression. Using MMP9‐null cells (M9‐KO) created from ovarian cancer cells, we found MMP9 loss did not block Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF)‐driven E‐cadherin dissolution or EMT but delayed and reduced EGF‐driven membrane protrusions. Transient MMP9 re‐expression drove membrane protrusion.

Clinical Practice Guideline for Evaluation and Management of Peripheral Nervous System Manifestations in Sjögren's Disease

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Sjögren's disease is an autoimmune disorder that can impact multiple organ systems, including the peripheral nervous system (PNS). PNS manifestations, which can exist concurrently, include mononeuropathies, polyneuropathies, and autonomic nervous system neuropathies.

Determination of fracture toughness in plain concrete specimens by R curve

open access: yesFracture and Structural Integrity, 2019
Experimental tests and computational algorithm are implemented to investigate crack growth phenomena in C0.7 concrete. Firstly, three point bending tests are carried out on normalized prismatic specimens notched laterally (SENB), then, computational ...

A Modified Three Point Bend Specimen

open access: yes, 2007
Fracture toughness testing is today used in several countries in integrity assessment work of structures of older steels with unknown toughness properties, the majority erected more than half a century ago. The most common type of test specimen employed is the three-point-bend specimen, which is plane-parallel and of constant thickness.

Mechanochemical Synthesis and Characterization of Nanostructured ErB4 and NdB4 Rare‐Earth Tetraborides

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
ErB4 and NdB4 nanostructured powders are produced by mechanochemical synthesis. 5 h mechanical alloying and 4 M HCl acid leaching are used in the production. ErB4 and NdB4 powders exhibit maximum magnetization of 0.4726 emu g−1 accompanied with an antiferromagnetic‐to‐paramagnetic phase transition at about TN = 18 K and 0.132 emu g−1 with a maximum at ...

Bistable Mechanisms 3D Printing for Mechanically Programmable Vibration Control

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work introduces a 3D‐printed bistable mechanism integrated into tuned mass dampers (TMDs) for mechanically adaptive passive vibration suppression. Through optimized geometry, the bistable design provides adaptable vibration reduction across a broad range of scenarios, achieving effective vibration mitigation without complex controls or external ...
